ABOUT ME

If you could extract and combine the worlds of the movies Wet Hot American Summer, The Sandlot, and I Bleed Black, that would be the place where my heart would be most content. I worked at a Unitarian Universalist sleep away summer camp for many years called Unirondack (www.unirondack.org), after being a camper there for many years. It was there where my silly, inclusive and caring attitude, as well as my love of games, teaching others, and the outdoors, all developed into the pillars of who I am as a person today.

If my friends were to describe me, they would probably refer to my often nonsensical sense of humor, my open, compassionate nature, or my love of Ultimate Frisbee. I started playing in college, but it has since become a huge part of my life, mostly because of the kinds of people that usually play ultimate, and the relationships I've built with them. From what I can tell so far, I think there's a good chance the Couch Surfing community will claim a similar stake in my heart.

My personal philosophy is to treat people with love and respect, and not to bring people down. I always try my best at whatever task may be at hand.

I'm a big fan of music, and have been teaching myself guitar over the past year or so. I also love discussing ideas, and interesting media outlets such as www.planetmoney.com or www.ted.com -- sites that introduce and explain fascinating concepts that really make you think. Books are awesome too, though as of late I've been doing more tutorials on how to program or listening to podcasts instead of reading--trying to get back into it. Any suggestions? ;p

While I'm all for a good drunken party every now and then, I'm not the biggest party animal, and most of the times would prefer a quiet get together with good friends. I think often times people place too much emphasis on "going out", and if prioritized in the wrong way can often produce more drama than joy. Also, drunken-ness should never be used as an excuse for disrespectful behavior or objectification of women.

But in conclusion, I'd consider myself a sincere feminist who likes playing games, growing the occasional beard, enjoying the outdoors and learning through new experiences.

PHILOSOPHY

Unitarian Universalism. Feminism. Treat others as you would like to be treated, and don't hurt other people's feelings. Also do your best, and be sincere.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Occasional surfing, would like to host, attending meetups

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None yet! Though...I did do a road trip from Boston to Oregon with some buddies from college, informally couch surfing on the way. One of the best couple weeks of my life--learning how to drive a manual transmission, seeing the Great Plains for the first time, engaging in deep philosphical conversations, and crushing the roller coasters at Cedar Point, Ohio ;)

oh! and don't forget the City Museum in St. Louis. That place is le awesome.

Interests

I'm interested in entrepreneurialism and startups, and recently I've been trying to teach myself some programming. However, I'm also into playing guitar, motorcycling, singing, ping pong, and the outdoors. I love spending time with people and learning new things.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was a camp counselor at a sleep away summer camp in the Adirondacks for many years after being a camper there for many more.

I'll never forget an amazing overnight trip I went on as my last year as a camper--we camped out on the rocks of a local waterfall, and with the weather being perfect that night, and slept under the stars. It was so breath taking, and I just remember it as the perfect camping trip.

As a counselor, one day during sunset there was a triple rainbow over the lake. It was like nothing I've ever seen before.

Finally, one week,as the a culminating evening program at camp, I split all 75 campers into groups and taught them the Thriller dance. Seeing them all perform it together at the end was pretty awesome.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to throw a forehand in Frisbee, how to steer a canoe, how to play guitar, how to sing, how to ride a motorcycle, how to teach yourself shit (an invaluable skill indeed!), and how to do backup your computer, all for free!

I'll also teach you how to make an amazing homemade pasta sauce in 20 min (hope you like cilantro!...though we don't have to put that in if it tastes like chalk to you haha), and some funny jokes.

And how to do a cartwheel. We all need to learn how to do that, don't we?
