About Me

I'm new to couchsurfing but have been an avid roamer and traveller for most of my life.

I'm an emergency doctor. I've lived in New Zealand for the past 17 years.

Usually I travel with my wife or adult kids, but if that's not possible, I try to do long solo outdoor adventures. Two years ago I bikepacked 3,000 km down the length of New Zealand and came to appreciate traveling with just a small bag, and no fixed schedule.

I love the couchsurfing concept of having a cultural exchange, one person at a time, one story at a time. Learning about history, politics, and the day-to-day life of a place from a local.

I've spent the last 20 years treating patients in the emergency department, in rescue helicopters, and volunteering in foreign countries. I've had lots of cool experiences and look forward to making more.

Fellow couchsurfers, I look forward to meeting you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I just joined Couchsurfing, after a long bikepacking trip made me realise how much I love traveling very simply and spontaneously.

I think travel should be about more than just sightseeing: connecting with people is what it's about.
