About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to share my Bangkok lifestyle with interesting people from different backgrounds and cultures. I have a nice large apartment and I'd like to offer my couch to surfers with a common interest of meeting good people.

ABOUT ME

I'm a 23 year old English teacher living in Bangkok I'm friendly and outgoing, but most importantly I love to chat and laugh, I'll chat to you for hours if the topic's right, and we can share our philosophies - though I really don't like to take life too seriously! I like to drink, but never too excess, and would prefer a trip to the cinema over a trip down the Khoa San road.

Heads up - my profile might say I've logged in from different places all over the world, this is not the case, I use a VPN server to mask my location so that I can use Netflix, I can assure you that I am and I always am in Bangkok!

PHILOSOPHY

I like to speak to everyone as if I've known them my whole life, some people find this blunt, others think it's arrogant, I'd say I'm just a confident person who enjoys discussions with other confident people, and thinks life's too short and especially too short for small talk.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't really know what this means...I have a couch...you need a couch...?

Please note though...I am more than happy to tell you some places of interest to visit in and around Bangkok, but if you expect me to accompany you on what would be my 1000th tour of Bangkok's temples then you're going to be disappointed.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've slept on my own couch and I can confirm that it is quite comfortable (in fact I'm sat on it whilst typing this)...other than that I've had no experiences.

Interests

Video games, film, television, music, friends...the usual things I guess...I'm a huge Ricky Gervais fan!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a sucker for music recommendations from so called music experts or critics. My entire music collection was formed from www.influentialalbums.com This way I can listen to my music whilst pretending I'm better than everybody else! Bring a hard drive and I can share my awesome (or so the internet has told me) music collection with you.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've stripped in a Go Go Bar in Bangkok and performed in a drag show in Phnom Penh!

I've recently finished a Thai massage course - I will expect Surfers to offer themselves as willing victims so that I can practice frequently!

Teach, Learn, Share

There is no official romanization of Thai into English, as such the spelling of Thai words with English script is down to individual interpretation. This means that I can be one end of my soi (a soi is a small street) and the street sign reads Phum Chit, the other end it might read Poomjit. PH and TH are both pronounced with a hard P and T. Phum Chit = Pum Chit. Thailand = Tailand. Thailand's airport, Suvarnabhumi, is actually pronounced Soo-wan-a-poom. The spelling is because it's translated from Thai script rather than phonetically. The presence of an I at the end is because of a silent I character at the end of the Thai word. Yeah, Thai has silent letters too.

There are no official words for 'yes' or 'no' in Thai language. A positive or negative response is determined by the preceding question. Kon Gary Eaton chai mai (You're Gary Eaton right?) Chai (Yes I am) Mai chai (No I am not). Tea ow mai (Do you want tea?) Ow (Yes I do) Mai ow (No I don't). Mai ow is particularly useful when dealing with tuk tuk drivers offering trips to jewelry shops, lady boys offering 'massages' and Indian men offering cheap suits...but they should also understand 'F*CK OFF'.

If you want to visit Thai temples beware of Thai touts outside who will tell you the temple is closed. They are lying, they just want to charge you to take you half way across the city to a different temple. Just punch him in the nose and stride proudly into said temple...just make sure you're not wearing open toed sandles!
