About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn Russian and discover Granada and its surroundings!

ABOUT ME

My recent story: a few years ago, with my university degree (in physics) secured, I felt the need to experience something different from the sometimes very serious environment of the theoretical physics community. After some deep thinking (is 2 months considered long?), I decided to take a gap year to travel and learn languages, two things I had always enjoyed and that had always given me the opportunity to meet people from different horizons. I needed fresh ideas!I first traveled 3 months in Argentina, and then I stayed 6 months in Berlin. I loved the experience so much, that I kept traveling ever since.

At the moment I live in Granada, Spain. I'm still looking for an apartment and hopefully I'll be able to host people in the near future.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I lived in Brussels I used to organize language conversation tables, in German and in Portuguese.

I decided to start hosting people when I was living in Sarajevo.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I started my CS experience in Argentina, Bariloche. I met a few people there, all of them extremely friendly. This first experience convinced me that I had found one of the best online communities of the world.

In Berlin, I discovered a much larger community, and there I participated to many CS events organized every week. I even did some unplanned "real" CS. When I went back in Belgium, I did the best I could to help the local community in Brussels. It's been a great experience so far!

Interests

I love to read. One of the reasons I learn languages is to be able to read literature in its original language. It's a slow process, but very rewarding.

I also have an incurable condition called wanderlust, although I prefer longer stays over shorter ones. It makes it easier to meet the locals and get to know the culture.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I'm into rock and alternative. Some groups I appreciate a lot: Pink Floyd, The Foo Fighters, The Killers, Dire Straits, Boards of Canada, Sigur Ros (it isn't rock, but I love their songs)... I've been listening to some electronic music recently. Books: Many! My favorite... The Little Prince maybe? :) I used that book a lot to learn languages. I've been reading books about psychology recently. Movies: I used to read a lot of P.K. Dick, so Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies. I also enjoyed the "Before Sunrise" trilogy. Then of course I'm a big fan of Miyazaki and the LOTR trilogy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- I went to the "Astronomy Farm" in Namibia a few years ago and I had the chance to see the southern sky in the purest conditions imaginable. I'll always remember the first time I saw the Milky Way in a sky completely free of light pollution. It was an amazing experience.

- Bariloche, Ushuaia and El Chalten in Argentina.
- Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil (and many other places in Brazil, it's an incredible country!).

- In 2015, I saw a total solar eclipse in Svalbard. I was there for only 4 days but I will remember this forever.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've worked quite hard to get that physics degree, so I suppose I could explain you a thing or two. :-) However I try not to think about it too much right now. I'm very interested in language learning and there are many "hacks" I could share to help you learn one faster! I can also offer you decent French lessons and some practice with the other languages that I speak. I also know a few things about amateur astronomy. I miss my stargazing sessions out in my backyard in Belgium, but that's what happen when you live in a big city.
