About Me

Hi! My name is Gayto Kala and I’m from the Hamar Tribe of Ethiopia. I live near Turmi Town, in the heart of the beautiful Omo Valley.

I work as a local tour guide and have years of experience guiding travelers through the traditional villages of the Kara Tribe, Hamar Tribe, and Dassanech Tribe. I love sharing our unique tribal culture, traditions, food, and way of life with visitors from around the world.

I enjoy meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and helping travelers explore the real and raw beauty of southern Ethiopia.

If you want to experience the real tribal life in the Omo Valley, I would love to host or guide you. I can also help with local transportation, translation, and organizing village visits.

Let’s connect and share stories under the African sky. 🌍✨I

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because I love meeting people from all over the world and sharing my culture. I’m proud to be from the Hamar tribe in the Omo Valley, and I want to help travelers explore the real beauty of southern Ethiopia.

Couchsurfing gives me the chance to make real connections, not just as a guide, but as a friend. I believe in learning from each other, sharing stories, and showing true hospitality.

It’s not just about a place to stay — it’s about creating memories, learning new things, and building friendships across cultures.

Interests

I love meeting people from all over the world and sharing the deep culture of my community. As someone from the Hamar Tribe living in the Omo Valley, I enjoy showing visitors how we live, our traditions, food, and dances.

I’m very passionate about nature, local history, and helping others discover the beauty of tribal life. I’m always excited to walk with travelers through villages, forests, and markets — answering their questions and learning from their experiences too.

I also enjoy photography, storytelling, traditional music, and cooking. It makes me happy when someone learns something new about my culture and goes home with good memories.

Couchsurfing is a beautiful way to connect, and I believe in building real friendships, not just hosting.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
I enjoy traditional Hamar and Ethiopian tribal music — with drums, dancing, and singing. I also like listening to relaxing African beats, and sometimes Indian music, because I meet many Indian travelers.

Books:
I don’t read many books, but I love learning from real-life stories. I enjoy listening to people’s experiences about travel, different cultures, and nature. I also like photo books about tribes and history.

Movies:
I like watching movies that show real life — tribal life, nature, survival, and adventure. Sometimes I enjoy African and Indian films with music and emotion.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I’ve done is guiding travelers deep into the tribal villages of the Omo Valley — where there is no internet, no roads, just nature and ancient traditions.

Once, I took a group to a remote Kara tribe village during a traditional ceremony. They danced under the stars, painted their bodies with natural clay, and shared their food with the guests like family. Everyone cried with happiness.

It reminded me how powerful human connection can be, even when we don’t speak the same language.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach:
I can teach you about the Hamar, Kara, and Dassanech tribes – their history, traditions, dances, food, and how they live today. I can show you how to cook traditional Ethiopian meals, wear tribal clothes, and speak a few local words in our languages.

Learn:
I want to learn more about different cultures, languages, and the lifestyle of people around the world. I’m especially interested in learning more English and how other guides work in different countries.

Share:
I can share my home, my culture, traditional food, and unforgettable experiences in the Omo Valley. I can take you on village tours, introduce you to tribal people, and help you feel the real spirit of Africa.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I may not have much in material things, but I offer my heart, honesty, and respect.

I can share stories from my Hamar tribe and the Omo Valley, cook simple Ethiopian food, and teach you about tribal traditions. If you’re interested, I can show you how we sing, dance, or use natural colors for body art.

I can help with cleaning, cooking, and anything you need during my stay. I’m always ready to listen, help, and bring good energy.

I offer kindness, cultural exchange, and true friendship — from one human to another.
