About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Alright well, yeah, ok well, the "MISSION" is to get out into this "Europe" and see as much as possible, while having genuine experiences with some genuine people in some genuine places.

ABOUT ME

I'm a nice guy from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I do a lot of work in new music. I'm the music director and current station manager at a free-form radio station in Chapel Hill called WXYC. I have some cool jobs in town selling new and older rare records and I take a lot of pleasure in that work. I study German and Comparative literature, so I'd love to chat about books you've read and movies you enjoy. I'm a generally kind and polite individual with a pretty competent sense of humor. I'm highly self-aware in a positive way. I don't really party at all in so far as I don't drink or do drugs, but I frequently put myself around that stuff because there's nothing wrong with it. I can carry a conversation, competent social skills, good pictures of dogs, excellent whistler, six foot two, very poor eyesight.

PHILOSOPHY

Left politics. No drugs no alcohol. Not straight edge, just never started, you can ask me about it but I won't have a good answer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Been taking advantage of the cool opportunities in Europe, hoping to host some folks in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Stayed with a few folks in Dresden and Prague. Had a lovely time. Gave pretty unique access to the city.

Interests

I work in independent radio in the states and sell records, so I'm quite into music. I'd love to talk about the following types of music: experimental/avant-garde, loud rock music, American folk music, funk/soul music, American jazz music, European free improvisation, disco, techno/house music. Music heads are my type of people, so if you want to share some stuff, let me know!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Like movies and television a lot. Everything from Criterion stuff to popular films. Not a snob.

Music: See above

Books: Contemporary Lit, old German Lit, new German Lit, detective novels, boring stuff, exciting stuff, philosophy, Wire Magazine

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A few discreet moments of apparent silence that were really nice

Teach, Learn, Share

I have specific interest in meeting people who are involved in small community efforts: music scenes, politics, art, hanging out, cooking food, whatever makes you and your buddies have a good time. Always looking for the specific in the places I go. Very interested in learning about the small-scale things going on in the places I visit, and I'd love nothing more than to give you a glimpse at the exciting, highly specific things going on in my town.
