About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see every facet of the world and every face of humanity possible--in a word, to TRAVEL--and to help others with the passion to travel, to the best of my ability

ABOUT ME

I'm an anarchist; I believe in true democracy, collectivism, and equality. I see the world as a garden to be shared, tended, and cherished by all mankind. I don't believe in borders or nations; I believe in Earth, I believe in humanity, and I believe in LIFE. I believe that we as humans, while an advanced and beautifully fallible (or fallibly beautiful?) race, are no better than any other form of life, and that it is our responsibility to use our wonderful gifts and our heightened consciousness to protect and defend our planet.

My partying days are behind me, but that doesn't mean I'm opposed to the occasional drink. I'm 420-friendly; I don't smoke marijuana but what you do in your home is your business. I'm also not necessarily opposed to a party atmosphere when I'm traveling, just no sketchy people, situations, or hard/illegal substances. I do smoke cigarettes, but I DO NOT smoke indoors, I don't toss my cigarette butts, and if a host is altogether put off by someone who smells like an ashtray, I am more than willing to abstain for the duration of my stay.

I'm open-minded; I embrace people of all races, sexes, creeds, and sexual orientations. I myself am a straight, pantheistic/panpsychist, caucasian mutt of a male. Politics don't matter much to me, either; even if we disagree, I get along with folks just fine. I can be a little awkward around new people at first, until I get comfortable, but that doesn't take long around good, welcoming people. I actually tend to be more outgoing than not these days, although from a psychological standpoint I believe I still qualify as an introvert.

PHILOSOPHY

Freedom. Do what you want, as long as it doesn't harm other people. Naturally, a respectful person must sometimes learn to bend his/her own perception of freedom in another person's home and respect their autonomy, because to do otherwise might threaten other people's well-being. Outside of those boundaries, the sky is the limit.

Love. I consider myself to be at the least pseudo-spiritual, and I believe that god is love, and love can be found in all things and nothing, everywhere, anytime, in anyone. Faith. Universal consciousness. Spirit of the universe. Higher power. Whatever you would call "god," I believe we all ultimately share the same desire and seek the same thing spiritually, but we take many different paths to reach god.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm here to travel, plain and simple. My motives are definitely selfish, at least to a point. I'm looking to save money when I travel, but I'm also looking to meet people, natives, and get the organic experience you just can't achieve staying in hotels or RVs and not stepping out of your invisible bubble, that protective shell we hide behind that limits our interactions and cooperation with others, with "strangers."

I'm also here to meet people who come to my town, make friends, and hopefully host a guest or two here and there and aid others in their passion for travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many movies to really list; cerebral stuff, a few action flicks, good comedies, cult classics--the usual. A few examples: The Matrix trilogy, all the Evil Dead movies (including the 2013 remake), anything starring Seth Rogen and the gang; Christopher Nolan's Batman movies...

Music: Also too many to list, but here's my preferred "genres": METAL and PUNK and anything between those spectra are my bread and butter, grindcore, hardcore, indie, ska, classic rock, [some] modern rock, a smidgen of country and bluegrass, reggae, underground and old-school hip-hop, some classical and orchestral stuff, electronic such as electrohouse and *dubstep*...almost anything, really, but 9/10 I'm not a big fan of mainstream radio-friendly music.

TV: Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, South Park, Bob's Burgers, Invader Zim...

Books: George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones); CrimethInc. publications, AK Press and other anarchist "propaganda"; J.R.R. Tolkien's works: The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, etc.; Harry Potter; the Earth's Children series (Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel)...

Comics: V for Vendetta, Watchmen, Ex Machina, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Swamp Thing, Squee!, DMZ, The Walking Dead, The Fall of Cthulhu...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This was actually my partner's suggestion: I am currently maintaining a long-term romantic relationship with a woman who suffers from borderline personality disorder.

People with BPD, in short, have a very fragile self-image, are often unsure of their own personal identity, tend to be very unstable, and are prone to drug abuse, promiscuous sex, self-harm, and suicide, among many other reckless and self-destructive behaviors.

She is by no means always easy to deal with, but I usually exercise a great amount of patience and understanding, and it pays off. She, in return, shows a tremendous amount of patience in regard to my issues and possible autism spectrum disorder. We are in love, happy together and completely committed.

This relationship is challenging, to say the least, because we've both got two armfuls of baggage. But that challenge is part of what makes this so great, and it draws us ever closer together, strengthening our love more and more as time passes.

Teach, Learn, Share

Gift economy: an economy that operates without money; rather, it operates solely on the input of the people who comprise it. It's simple karma, really: you give, you get back without having to make any direct exchange or payment. You give because you want to and for the right reasons, and you're bound to get it back; the key is recognizing that you may not always get back in the same manner you gave.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Respect; friendly company--possibly even new friends; loyalty; appreciation and gratitude; help with food expenses; a fair share of chores--I wash dishes for a second living, so if you don't have a dishwasher, I'm your man! ;D

Anything asked of me, within reason and the bounds of mutual respect
