About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am looking to step outside of my comfort zone, make new acquaintances, learn new things, and see the world as it is.

ABOUT ME

I am a somewhat introverted dude that is looking to become less-insulated and more realistic. Understandably, there is much to do in this aim.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to see philosophies, and people, for the good in them, while not getting bogged down in the negative. I try to trust, even if I have misgivings, because I find that trust can dissolve a number of contentions.

Ultimately, I want to be happy, and I do not believe this should be at anyone else's expense- therefore, by trying to assist other people on their quest for happiness, I figure I'll get good practice on my own.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far, I have not. :(

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Very little, aside from the occasional housing that has been graciously been provided to me while traveling to dance events.

Interests

Brains! Cognitive science is a fascinating thing. Computers, by analogy, are far less complex and thus less interesting but fascinating in their own way. I'm kind-of-sort-of into philosophy, have and practice hemi-semi-demi-buddhist sorts of leanings, and generally am very skeptical both ex- and in-ternally. I enjoy a good conversation with a minimum of useless chatter and an enthusiastic game of chess. As a union of philosophy and technical proclivity, I am very much enamored with open source software.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a fan of science fiction and dark humor. R. A. Lafferty is one of my favorite authors, as is Philip K. Dick, Robert A. Heinlein, and others. I enjoy learning and reading about science from such luminaries as Steven Pinker, Richard Feynman, and a number of others.

I would not be surprised to find more people that enjoy the fantastic television show 'Lexx' in Europe than in America.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Every day, in its own way.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am very skilled in a number of technical disciplines and am always eager to lend my advice or more technical assistance to whatever I can. I am an origamist and think there is much to be learned about mindfulness from the simple engagement of hands and paper. Most importantly, I try to learn whatever I can from what is around me in a discerning way, whether it's how to properly build a campfire or lashing bamboo. Learning's fun.
