About Me

CURRENT MISSION Sharing the joys of being human I am a miner for a heart of gold... PHILOSOPHY A lifelong student on a journey to experience as much of the world as I can. I try to do something every day that scares me. Gratitude changes everything. We all have something to share with the world, and I believe in making human connections to learn from one another why we're all here!
“Travelers don’t know where they’re going, tourists don’t know where they’ve been”
“Those who enjoy sausage and respect the law should never see them made”

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I started out in the couchsurfing world almost 10 years ago by hosting wonderful people in my upstate New York college home, back in 2009, and continued to meet amazing people from around the world in my adopted home of San Francisco CA.

Now I’m traveling the world again on bike, and look forward to connecting with interesting and inspirational members of the human family worldwide...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have met some of the most interesting people of my life on couchsurfing and warmshowers (like CS, but for cycling tourists). I've hosted and traveled on both sites. My impression is that people who join this site tend to share some fundamental beliefs about the potential good in others, and I look forward to sharing more with this community.

Interests

I love cycling, wild mushrooms & mycology, hiking, civic engagement, alternative energy, the internet, good bands- especially good live bands, themed parties, dreams, gardening, maintaining my health, swimming in various natural bodies of water, views from high places, family, old friends, new friends, printmaking-especially woodcut, travel, short stories, boccie, palindromes and portmanteau, IPA's, independent radio, San Francisco, and life

Music, Movies, and Books

Tough categor(ies).
Directors: Wes Anderson, Alejandro Jodorowski, Hayao Miyazaki, Quentin Tarentino, Richard Linklater, Darren Aronofsky, Cohen Brothers
Others: The Big Lebowski, Hercules In New York, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leselie Vernon, The Planet Earth series and pretty much anything else narrated by David Attenboro.

Shows: I do not watch television, but sometimes I Neflix.
Rick & Morty, Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia, X-Files, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Boondocks, The Office (UK), Mad Men, and South Park

Music: I cannot do this in a list, but I run the gamut from Radiohead to MF Doom to Neutral Milk Hotel to Chemical Brothers to Rashaan Roland Kirk and back. But not all. I always need new music.

Books: Give & Take, Stroke of Insight, Tipping Point, People's History of the United States, White Noise, almost any Kurt Vonnegut, Leaves of Grass, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, Jesus Son, On The Road, and Ginsberg. and Mark Strand. Mostly, a good short story will always get me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lived on my bicycle for 5 months, riding San Francisco to Los Angeles and St. Louis to New York, then riding Rome to Zurich and Zurich to Athens & around Japan for a month as well, stealth camping & couch surfing most of the way!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach: about a dozen wild edible mushrooms, basic cultivation techniques for home growing mushrooms, how to fix a bike, energy policy & various other wonky topics related to politics, some guitar, hand-printed woodcuts, how to read the weather, a few card games, and I`m pretty good at identifying trees...

I`d love to learn yoga, continuous breathing, and any new language! Reading palms would be good to know, too. Just in case.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Cooking, stories, bike repair, mushroom knowledge, useless trivia, jokes, a wonderful smile, future postcards

Countries I’ve Visited
