About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Living in the Present and Growing
ABOUT ME
We were married in July 2011. We live in a low income neighborhood that has tons to offer but gets a bad reputation (gotta love the media). We moved to this row home because we wanted to invest intentionally in our neighbors (already our intimate community) and in the larger community as well. Our neighbors are like family. We both work with at- risk youth in the city through a resource center, after-school program and an urban organic farm. Work might be misleading, it is more of a lifestyle. We love to travel, meet new people and to experience new cultures. We like to hear and know people's stories, always growing and understanding challenges we all are facing. We also enjoy laughing, good beer/wine and food! We have lots of favorite spots in Harrisburg and love to share them with others :)
PHILOSOPHY
Love your neighbor as yourself but first make sure you know yourself and are loving yourself well. Be present and listen more than talk. Life is a journey...be gentle with yourself!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We are open to meeting new people through hosting and being hosted!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far, we have stayed with CSers once in Pittsburgh when going to a friend's wedding. They made us feel so at home! We found so many similarities and connections that it was awesome- a great first experience. The second time Josh met with a surfer from Germany for tea and showed her around Harrisburg. She was doing some research and they went to a local museum. It was great and she said if we ever need a place in Germany to look her up. Some day we hope we can do that!
Interests
Farming/gardening, social justice, traveling, culture, friendship, running, reading, cooking, flowers, faith/spirituality, family, learning and growing.
We are interested in community, being in community, growing in community and teaching about community. It is so important and is so hard to do. We are interested in living life to the fullest and being present. We are very interested in eating...and drinking!!!

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Bridesmaids, Conspiracy Theory, Dead Poet's Society, musicals, to name a few. Authors include: anything Barbara Kingsolver or Ann Lamott, Henri Nouwen, Wendell Berry, Sue Monk Kidd...Music: Ingrid Michaelson, The Civil Wars, Regina Spektor, Adele, some country, some folk...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We have both been to about 20 countries each (some overlapping!) Josh did some of traveling in Israel in 2001, and decided to go to Gaza. They got public transport to the beach and slept there overnight to the sounds of helicopter gunships flying overhead and then hitched a ride the next morning into Gaza. They took a taxi from the border into the city but it was a fairly hostile trip all around. Fortunately, nothing other than eggplant and apples hit them during their visit. Micalagh once got stuck in London on a very cold night and alternated between trying to sleep in a telephone booth and a drafty bus station. She has also slept in airports all over the world, from Japan to Germany to Italy to the Philippines.
Teach, Learn, Share
Josh has had 5+ years of farming experience. Micalagh loves theological discussions and anything social work. We have some skills and knowledge...and would love to learn more from others!
