About Me
CURRENT MISSION
The future is no place to place your better days
ABOUT ME
Life is all about loving one another.
After a few years holding down a steady job, I experienced my first major travels in 2012 by backpacking through southern US and Central America.
Back working in Belfast now and enjoying life in the city, travelling when I can.
PHILOSOPHY
The cheerful heart has a continual feast...you are who you choose to be...and other such philosophical combinations of Scripture and children's movies...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Get in touch and I can show some special parts of the Causeway Coastal Route which a bus tour will probably skip! There are so many beautiful places on the east coast between my home town of Ballymena and my favourite beach at Whiterocks, Portrush.
I can also bring you to some great bars in Belfast city centre.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I hung out with some Texans at a blues night in Belfast, hosted a lovely German girl for a week, including local greyhound racing; and gave a lift to Dublin to Marcos from Puerto Rico - it's been all good!
Surfing in New Orleans, Austin, Oaxaca (Mexico) and Guatemala City was packed full of fun and good memories!
Interests
I play a little piano and soccer, but best of all I like to go to gigs with friends or to go for weekends of BBQ/camping by the sea. I have done lots of volunteer work with young people which was been a big part of my life for the last 10 years.
Hey what else...jumping off things, wearing a kilt, fancy dress (esp Halloween), parties on boats, Zumba infomercials...
Music, Movies, and Books
Thoughtful or philosophical science-fiction/indie/popular flicks such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind / Minority Report / Groundhog Day / Donnie Darko / Truman Show / Source Code rocks my world...as well as heartwarmers with a good story like It's a wonderful Life as well as unusual but quality horror or actioners like Apocalypto / Rec / Julia's Eyes...Funk/ Soul / Blues / Electro as well as popularish rock like Dave Matthews Band...I almost never finish a book then occasionally read one nearly all in one go as I did with John Barleycorn (quote below). Would recommend Karen Armstrong's book about the Bible as well.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Spontaneous volunteering post-earthquake in San Marcos, Guatemala.
Day of the Dead in the middle of nowhere in Chiapas, Mexico.
Joining 250 volunteers to build 10 homes in one week for people living in substandard housing in a small town in Romania...Seeing phosphorescent sea algae and a sun halo both on a summer camp for teenagers in Donegal, west Ireland...
Ran the Flanders Fields and Robin Hood marathons.
Teach, Learn, Share
Heaven forefend me from the most of the average run of male humans who are not good fellows - the ones cold of heart and cold of head who don't smoke, drink, nor swear, nor do much of anything else that is brave, and resentful, and stinging, because in their feeble fibers there has never been the stir and prod of life to well over its boundaries and be devilish and daring.
