About Me

Hello CouchSurfing Community!!
My name is Geena & as of Sept 3rd 2019 I'm a full-time traveler! A not-so-long time ago I was pursuing a career in medicine until I made my first hop across the giant pond...and my whole life changed. Travel became my only pursuit and my biggest passion. Same goes for my travel partner and soon-to-be husband, Evan Harris.

We are outdoorsy, adventurous, free-spirited, and open-minded. We also love all things animals. (Street animals, wildlife, and pets alike) When we travel we do so on a budget and we make an effort to experience the city or country like a local. We love markets, street food, and learning about the culture and traditions while we travel. We try to avoid the typical tourist attractions (unless they are truly worth seeing) and shopping centers. My long-time role model and inspiration was the late Anthony Bourdain. We also don't travel to party. Don't get me wrong...we are bartenders. We love a good cheap beer or fancy craft cocktail and conversation but we gravitate away from the partiers bar hopping and using their travel time to get wasted all around the world.

I love photography and writing. Aside from my freelance writing gigs, I also run a blog focused on helping others travel in a more authentic way. Pursuing immersive travel and proving that travel itself doesn't have to be expensive. Evan has an equally strong passion for music as he does travel. Previously he was in a metal band in Seattle and now focuses more on music production here in Los Angeles. He's also the most personable human on the planet. I promise every host will become his best friend. He's just that likeable.

Overall we are an adventurous couple with a passion for travel and getting outside our comfort zone. We're up for anything and excited to get exploring & meet some friends around the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is a unique opportunity to interact with locals and expats! I think this is the coolest idea ever. People are such a huge part of travel. You can learn so much more from real-life people than from a tour. And it's where you get all the best recommendations. Those are my selfish reasons for joining this platform. In return, we hope we can be good guests and share our experiences with you.

We just want a platform to make friends. To meet people from all over the world who are equally adventurous and open-minded as we are. To connect and to learn about the city we are visiting. And hopefully to make lasting friendships with interesting humans equally passionate about travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

As far as music, movies, and books go...I'm easy-going.

Music: Pretty much anything. Vallis Alps and Banks have been on my playlist a whole lot lately.

Movies: I never go to the theatre....very un-Los Angeles of me. I love a good documentary or anything done by Scorsese. Not really into Rom-Coms or Horror movies.

Books: I love to read. My most recently finished are...First They Killed My Father, How to Change Your Mind, and 12 Rules for Life. I also love a good personal travel memoir for some inspiration.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think the most amazing thing I've done is embarking on this full-time travel journey.

Some other things on the list are..

-Climbing a glacier in Iceland
-Experiencing the Solar Eclipse within the line of Totality
-Coming face to face with the Komodo dragons
-Canoeing through the flooded rainforest of the Colombian Amazon.

Teach, Learn, Share

We love to learn. Culture, cooking, and Evan- anything music related. Basically anything you are passionate about sharing with us we would love to learn.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We can share our travel experiences. Things we have learned along the way. As far as skill specific teaching goes- photography, website creation, budget travel, music production, and sharing a beer somewhere of your choosing. :)

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Iceland, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Mexico, Peru, Thailand, Turkey, Viet Nam
