About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live my life to the fullest!

ABOUT ME

I'm adopted from China, grew up in the Boston area.

I am a graduate engineering student with a passion for sustainability, and in my career, would like to help mitigate the effects of climate change.

My two favorite things are traveling and the outdoors. Both passions I picked up after college. I did a trip to Europe in 2014 and a trip to Southeast Asia in 2016. I take every chance I can to explore someplace new and take an adventure!

PHILOSOPHY

Being happy, not finding happiness, is the key to life.

Also, I have found that the sharing of an experience can in many cases be more special than the experience itself : )

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm relatively new to Couchsurfing, but I fell in love with it after my first experience in Winnipeg, Canada. My host instantly invited me to join him and his friends for a cabin party, and spent some time with me exploring the city the next day. It was amazing, I was naturally welcomed into his life and treated with such generosity. Couchsurfing has reaffirmed my belief that most people out there are really good people.

I love to meet people from different cultures, and understanding what life is like for them and what kinds of things they are passionate about. I am so fascinated by how diverse the world is, yet how any two people can find something in common. And am thrilled that I can experience this by meeting locals first hand through Couchsurfing.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Once I am back to graduate school, I would like to become a CS host!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like most music...rock, alternative, folk, some country... groups that come to mind are Dave Matthews Band, Chili Peppers, Matchbox Twenty.

I am reading this book called The Better Angels of Our Nature Why Violence Has Declined by Steven Pinker. It was recommended by Bill Gates to encourage young people out there that despite all the cynicism about the future, the world has and is actually getting better.

I really like a book called "30 Lessons for the Living," containing wisdom from older folk reflecting on their life. They make clear some important things in life are:
- waking up excited to go to work
- always being honest
- saying yes to opportunity
- traveling more, there's no better time than now
- realizing time spent worrying is time wasted
- understanding happiness is a choice, not a condition

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I experienced first hand the greatest act of kindness. After seriously injuring myself hiking, a Hmong family living in the local village took me in, dressed my wounds, put me by the fire, had me eat dinner (and rice wine) with them, and provided me a bed to sleep in, all without asking for anything in return. I find it absolutely mind-blowing that people with very little material wealth seem to have an abundance of warmth, joy, and generosity. And it very well could have saved my life!

Teach, Learn, Share

I've learned that you have to do what you want in life, whether it is your pursuing your career, relationships, or traveling the world.

I am always open and interested in learning from others. Everyone has a unique perspective, and it can be really insightful to see things in new and different ways.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A special fondness for life and everything that it has to offer. A duality of being mature and responsible, yet youthful and inquisitive at heart. And an ability to have meaningful conversations about life, the world around us, and our own experiences.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, England, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
