About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To laugh, travel, love and shnaffle good food with friendly smiley people
ABOUT ME
We've just finished 5 years of working in an international school in Dubai and now embarking on our adventures starting in Africa in July 2011.
Paul is a junior school teacher and I teach English literature - we're both nice, easy going people with a penchant for scrummy spicy food, a cheeky beverage or two and people with good sense of humour.
We love to keep fit and particularly enjoy running and I love climbing (though I'm not particularly accomplished but working on it)! Travel is our passion as is trekking. We have very wide tastes in music and I love to sing.
Mainly though as long as you're smiley and like a good chuckle, we'll love you and you'll love us (fingers crossed!) :)
PHILOSOPHY
Don't mock the cheesiness, it's TRUE...
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Play with abandon. Laugh loudly. Choose with no regret. Appreciate your family and friends. Continue to learn. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.
It's all about KARMA baby! If you do good for people, it WILL come back to you.
Smile at strangers regularly.
I fundraise and offer my time to humanitarian projects related to my school in Dubai to try and rebalance my guilt for living in such a superficial (but fun...) place! I've worked in Ethiopia, Kenya, Thailand, North and South India and Nepal during my school holidays over the last 2 years.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Due to Dubai's location as a transit point, we've had masses of people crash over the last 5 years - usually friends of friends. I was put onto Couch Surfing as a more organised way of doing it plus as Paul and I are off travelling ourselves this year it seemed like a goood idea!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've not hosted from Couch Surfing but just friends, friends of friends, randoms and kids of my parents friends! Anyone who seems savoury, chilled and smiley enough to not scare the knickers off us :)

Music, Movies, and Books
BOOKS: I love love love reading (when I'm not in the middle of the school term or I have to read 'school books' urgh) - I can appreciate classical lit to chick lit and am a convert to the Kindle - YES YES turning the page of a beaiutiful well thumbed novel is unrivaled but when you're travelling, you have CHOICE with a Kindle - Fabulous fabulous fabulous!
MUSIC: Pretty much everything goes - Classical, Jazz, Rock, Hard Rock, Britpop, Electro, some R&B, Indie and a jolly generous sprinkle of Cheese never goes amiss...I love to sing and have played in a couple of bands.
FILMS: I can read/watch virtually anything (except perhaps mind numbingly scary stuff - eeek! I become a complete girl I'm afraid) things that are considered less then superior quality, anywhooo, who is to say what's "great"? We can find value in the most unexpected places.
