About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Eurotrip before I start my thesis

ABOUT ME

They would describe me as a very two-sided person. On one side, I can be very studious and I enjoy to study, learn about anything from mathematics to new cultures. On the other side, I love to meet new people, either in chilled out bars or in the midst of a hectic party. For me it is easy to switch between the two depending on what is available. I'm generally very easy going and it does not take much to keep me interested and occupied. I enjoy trying new things as long as it won't result in broken limbs / life threatening injuries. My favorite activity whilst travelling is eating. Finding new food that is unique to an area or region is amazing, regardless of whether it is from a small street stall or nice restaurant. The only things I have not been able to eat are insects.

PHILOSOPHY

Study hard. Play harder.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My first time landing a small plane by myself was amazing. To safely get down 650 kg of steel and aluminium is an experience that I will never forget. The next most amazing experience was successfully performing an emergency landing on some random farm (even though the problem was merely the fuel tank switch was not working).

Being in Koh Phangan at the Full Moon Party in the 2011 new year's eve and Berlin in 2012 new year's eve were both unforgettable experiences. In Koh Phangan, the raw, primal, tribal feel of the full moon party allowed you to lose yourself in the crowd, and lose your sense of identity, becoming one of that tens of thousands of people on the beach just looking for a good time. In Berlin, we had a small group of friends chilling at a house till 6am and watching people set of small fireworks on the street, before we went a party that lasted 2 days (which I didn't manage to stay awake for). The party itself was fairly average, but the people I spent it with, I will never forget. I have never been more disoriented going home during midday.

The first time I completed a multi-pitch climb was absolutely mind-blowing (it was only 2 stage, 43m). We climbed a high look out point in the Blue Mountains in Australia and when we reached the top, we were exhausted but you could see trees in the horizon meeting cliffs and the sky. It was so quiet, you could hear a river before you could see it. The greatest thing was that the more you stared into the landscape, the more details and small contours that your eyes could see.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have theoretical knowledge on aircraft and spacecraft and I would love the opportunity to turn this theoretical knowledge into a more hands-on skill.
