About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I’ve experienced the network and met some great people

ABOUT ME

About me: originally from the country; mature age; very well educated; sensible, pleasant, well balanced & easy to get along with; did part-time work in the city as a political advisor; now work as a private consultant, researcher/policy analyst; market research and the environment.
A particular interest is the building of low carbon-footprint & resource self-sufficient homes.

Please feel free to go to my web site and if you'd like to post a comment and also join me on Facebook.

PHILOSOPHY

Now this is an interesting question; let's just put it that I'm a social liberal who believes in compassionate capitalism and like so many I'm appalled at the excess of greed.
I was once in Calgary, Canada and didn't have the correct change to buy my ticket for the tramway; a woman purchased my ticket for me and when I offered her some money said "No thank you; It'll came back to me" - a good way to live.
Tolerance and understanding is something we all need to work at!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In 2007/08 I hosted three young students from Austria; who were in Australia for a month. I travelled around with them and saw a lot of Australia that I'd not previously seen.
The one who was doing most of the trip organising would defer to me. I suggested to him he should do it & I'd tag along as it'd be their rather than my trip. It worked out.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In organising their trip these young men lucked upon CouchSurfing and arranged various couch stays. I was impressed by the people I met through this and the experiences I gained from these people. So I thought the best thing I could do would be to do it too and hopefully emulate their example.

Music, Movies, and Books

Try to take in a movie once a week with a friend from Uni days some are good others terrible! Each perhaps being a reference point for the next.
Music tends to the quiet and more peaceful; but nonetheless is eclectic!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well I've been fortunate to have done and seen some amazing things; great beauty and immense cruelty. I think it's great to go to see the world and to be touched by its events.
Each of us has a unique experience and an as equally unique interpretation of the events and places we experience.
Of recent times I wanted to be in NYC for the first anniversary of 9/11 as a year earlier I like everyone else had been gob-smacked by the audacity and inhumanity of it.
I wanted to express my solidarity with New Yorkers; the concert in Central Park was amazing as was the way too how so many present were profoundly moved by it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Experiental learning is great; it's the process of exploring from which we learn most. Learning how to learn was the title of my second assignment when I returned to university as a mature age graduate student; observing, listening and evaluating and challenging the status quo.

AND AS WE DO MOVE AROUND WE SHOULD ENGAGE AND TALK MORE AND MORE ABOUT HOW WE CAN ALL LIVE MORE SUSTAINABLY AND WHAT WE WANT OUR GOVERNMENTS TO DO TO ACHIEVE THIS.
