About Me

UPDATE

It is time to move forward. I knew how people are spending time in Europe now. I witnessed it with my own eyes, and I decided to activate my CS account. Yes, SARS-CoV2 stays with us. But we can move forward and enjoy our lives with some care.

If you want to share some time with me, you want to ask me how my schedule is like in advance. Please note that there is no guarantee that I would be able to host you even if you would ask me in advance depending on which dates you would request.

For potential guests
1. I can only host 1 person at a time.
2. I only host 2-3 nights max.
3. For Surfers coming on weekdays, I would not be able to share time with you since I would be working. I will try to have dinner with you and share some conversation.
4. If you are happy to help my teaching, you are more than welcome to be my teaching assistant in some lectures. In this way, you can meet 20 something in a local university in Japan.

How to Make Your Request Stand Out?
I would like to borrow the idea of David Li, who I met in Hong Kong. He is a great guy. I would like to ask you to answer ONE of the following four questions. There's no right or wrong answer, but I tend to like people with the ability to think and communicate.

Question 1 I agree with the following statement by Mark Manson. "True love — that is, deep, abiding love that is impervious to emotional whims or fancy — is a choice. It’s a constant commitment to a person regardless of the present circumstances. It’s a commitment to a person who you understand isn’t going to always make you happy — nor should they! — and a person who will need to rely on you at times, just as you will rely on them." - Mark Manson What is true love to you?

Question 2 What's the difference between romance and friendship, if sex is not a factor?

Question 3 What's the best birthday gift you have ever given to someone?

Question 4 I think tertiary education does not necessarily offer useful knowledge or skill for life. I want to see students learning communication skills (e.g., how to speak to people without blaming) through their undergraduate studies. What knowledge or skill do you think tertiary education should offer? And why do you think so?

I would like to ask you to properly file your couch surfing request. I realized that the scene has changed a lot, and I feel sad about the fact that some people drop one liners. Please state why you want to meet me and what you want to share with me along with your answer to one of the questions above. I appreciate true Couch Surfing spirit.

CURRENT MISSION
To live in a way I feel happy

ABOUT ME
I am a Japanese/English bilingual. I was raised in Japan when I was little. But I lived in English-speaking countries when my personality was formed in my 20s. I ended up being a multicultural person. I always enjoy sharing time with folks from all over the world. This let me grow up further more. I am into a few things. I love tennis a lot. I cannot live without it. I do physical training so that I can stay on tennis courts. When I lived in London, I was camping in Wimbledon park to get center court tickets. I started doing this again with my friends in London. In 2018, I was watching men’s semifinals (the longest men’s semifinal between Anderson and Isner, and classy battle between Rafa and Novak). In 2019, I was sitting almost right behind a player chair and watching Roger and Kei! My passion goes to music as well. I used to be a college radio DJ when I was in the US. I was in Nu Jazz scene in the early 2000. Now I dig all sort of music including old school stuff. But I always look for great underground jazz. One of my current favorite albums is Vermillion sky by Nathan Haines. My current favorite YouTube channel is NPR tiny desk concert. Another thing I like is psychology. I have been reading some books in social psychology. I think social psychology offers chances to improve one's personality and human relationships. Finally, I like computer science. I use R and carry on research projects in my work. R is a great computer language. I love it!

PHILOSOPHY
Do what you believe in, believe in what you do. Just live your life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate in this community by hosting interesting/open-minded/inspiring travelers. I also participate in the community as Couch Surfer and try to meet up folks who let me grow up more.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I initially met couch surfers through my good friend in New Zealand. He was hosting some travelers, and I realized that this is a good way to learn anything from inspirational travelers. I started using couch surfing for traveling in August 2013. I wanted to travel for a long time to think about my life, and I wanted to meet new people. I surfed three times in France, which were all positive experiences. I was very happy to meet random inspirational souls out there. Reaching people out there really let me think about life in different ways. Now I try to meet travelers in my area and sharing some time with them. I have met some travelers who got interesting stories, free spirits, and precious life lessons. I wanna keep up traveling and meeting people so that I can further grow up using this amazing CS culture.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two road trips from LA to New York in 3 weeks. I was on the way to Ohio to visit my friend's family. My friend and I reached Times Square for the 2000 countdown. I flew back to LA and resting a bit. Then, I had a call from another friend. He said "I gottta return a car to Baltimore. Do you wanna come?" My bag was perfectly ready to go with some dirty cloths. I had no reason to reject his offer. I stayed at home for 12 hours and I was back to the road to New York again. Now I think that this is a pretty crazy story. I thought this would be an ordinary story when I was younger!
