I'm living in a place that seems a lot like paradise to me and enjoy sharing the experience. I've done a fair bit of hosting and feel I have honoured my promise to pay it forward.
Having said that, it's always nice to meet new people and help travellers find a home along their travels, but I've had some very unrewarding experiences where kids travelling for the first time straight out of their parents home have come to stay. It's put me off hosting quite a bit ... I don't have children of my own so don't want to be baby sitting and/or cleaning up after others.
The positive experiences I've had have all had a few things in common, the guests were grateful, polite, thoughtful and interested in sharing adventure stories, or participating in adventures or generally enjoying each others company. I guess it's the more seasoned explorers that make the best guests.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I have travelled a lot and most of it has been done on a very tight budget, I met some wonderful people along the way, two of whom struck a chord ... I was very grateful as they had picked me up hitch hiking from the side of an autobahn I should not have been on during a truck protest where most of the traffic had been slowed to a trickle. They took me from France headed to the Netherlands, and along the way decided to stop off for dinner in a nice restaurant.
I could not afford to eat there so I suggested I'd just continue hitching, they wouldn't hear of it and invited me to dinner. I explained I could not afford it and they simply said, that's ok when you can afford it do something nice for someone who needs it. I promised I would and I believe in honoring my promises.
Aside from that ... I get a buzz out of seeing others enjoy the things I moved up here to enjoy ;)

Santana - Supernatural is my all time favourite but enjoy a wide range of music, from classical to even country (so funny listening to the lyrics hehe).

Love to learn, love to teach .... chess, self defence, rock climbing would be some of the things I could pass on.

A safe place to call home while away from home, perhaps some cooked up treats, maybe some exploring of the gorgeous natural surrounds. I do need a rock climbing buddy to explore Townsville granite climbs ... anyone?
