Overview
About Me
I studied Physics at Durham University before becoming an Aerospace Engineer near London, England. I ultimately found that the permanent suburban office job and 9-5 lifestyle weren't for me, so after three years I packed it in. I'm now aiming to see the world and travel long-term, sustaining myself by finding different jobs in as many countries as I can. My journey started in 2018 with the Working Holiday Visa in Australia.
I've been in Australia for 9 months so far, and have worked in a roadhouse, on a mine site doing a survey to search for gold, and recently on board a whale shark tour boat on the Ningaloo Reef.
There are a few things I do for fun - I'm a qualified pilot, and I've flown in England, the USA and Australia. I want to keep expanding this list, and it's my pipe dream to eventually fly as a career. I'm a keen traveller, and I'm always looking forward to the next trip. Some places I've visited for a couple of days, and others I've been lucky to experience for months at a time; I spent a summer working in California during university, and recently did a month-long 4000 mile roadtrip though Utah, Nevada, Arizona and the west coast. I'm an advanced SCUBA diver, but don't get to do this often! I also play guitar, love old-time rock and roll and enjoy photography, technology and astronomy.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've had very positive experiences staying with locals before, and I want to keep expanding my network of friends around the world. I also love to do what I can to help out hosts while enriching my own travel experiences through their knowledge. I think Couchsurfing is a great way to forge strong connections which would otherwise never happen.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music - Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, David Bowie, Nirvana, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Elmore James (any old blues artists really). I like stuff from the 60s and 70s with an emphasis on good rock and roll guitar!
Movies - Withnail and I, Pulp Fiction, Ace Ventura, Blues Brothers, Back to the Future, Forrest Gump. Mainly classics, with a few good cult films.
Books - Mainly travel authors like Bill Bryson, Michael Palin. Also like technical books about spacecraft and airplanes, as well as the life stories of interesting people. I normally just go to the bookshop and pick up anything that looks interesting at the time.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Flown a private plane over the Hoover Dam and Las Vegas.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you intermediate guitar, get you started in computer programming (Windows and Android), teach you photography with a DSLR camera (and photo editing), and give you an intro to flying in a small plane when I have converted my pilot's licence to your country's equivalent.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I don't expect anything for nothing, so I can do whatever household jobs you need. I enjoy giving back, and I want my stay to be positive for both me and my hosts. I will of course buy my own food! Also, as I mentioned above, I'd love to take you flying once I sort out the formalities to use my pilot's licence in your country! Or, if you're ever in my neck of the woods in the UK, I can give you a flying tour of my home county.
