About Me
Well... Here's my little story. I was born in Ukraine where I grew up and did my BS in biology. As a teenager and in early twenties I was a passionate angler, so I got specialised in ichthyology. Then in 2010 I moved to New Zealand. There I studied English to continue my biology study at postgrad level. English got better but the biology undertaking was abandoned since I lost my interest in it, though I did try to continue with it at a couple of NZ unis. When the lack of motivation for the subject became crystal clear I shifted my study program to my new love---philosophy, which I then happily pursued for a whole year.
However, as my interests within the subject got more refined, I decided that the world of analytic philosophy doesn't stand up to my aspirations and inclinations. I decided to embark on a journey to explore the thicket of Buddhist thought as well as existential elaborations of Heidegger's phenomenology. For that I needed to leave NZ, as it's philosophy deps are vehemently dominated by worshipers of rationalism, Hume and Wittgenstein lacking the expertise in question. Thus, in 2017 it brought me to windy shores of Hong Kong where I lived and studied for a year for my masters in Buddhist studies.
Then I came to Germany to continue to improve my Sanskrit as well as German. So now I'm a postgraduate student at the Numata Center for Buddhist Studies of the University of Hamburg where I'm lucky to be surrounded by people dedicated to all this nonsense. Joking ;)
So... As you can guess I have quite some international experience under my belt, though most of it was informed by my educational undertakings. Nonetheless, since 2010 I've always been living with other people chiefly in flats. So I know how to wash dishes! :)))
Ohhh... I've almost forgot. I'm a vegan/freegan, don't drink or smoke. Also I'm that kind of person who can eat NZ Marmite with a spoon if it matters to anyone!
PS ATTENTION!!! I've read this great guide of how to be a good surfer: https://www.angloitalianfollowus.com/how-to-great-couchsurfing-guest You also can read and share it to help a good cause.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
First of all, to get to know interesting people and to be immersed into a living culture of a place I'm visiting. For me the opportunity to meet new people is a good in itself. Second, to be frank, to have a corner to spend a night as well as to shelter someone whenever conditions allow that. This is my first time to use Couchsurfing and I hope it'll be an absolutely great experience!
At the moment I CAN'T host for overnight stays, but I can let one to use our kitchen and a shower. Also I can take one around the city. I live in a very nice student dormitory in Eimsbüttel.
Music, Movies, and Books
Rock, classical, ritual (Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim etc.), ethnic, punk, industrial, jazz, blues, no wave. Yeah, quite a mix. As for literature, I prefer more a thought-provoking one in any form (poetry, treatises, novels, fairy-tales, diaries etc.). The same goes for films.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hitchhiked around the South Island in New Zealand meeting all kinds of people and animals.
Teach, Learn, Share
-- Languages (Russian/Ukrainian/English/Sanskrit)
-- Philosophy
-- Biology
-- Food: Indian, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Chinese
At the same time I'm more than happy to dive into some unknown waters and to learn something new. I like to share as much as to learn.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm always up to:
-- cook for a host or to help her/him in the process
-- read some poems or sing songs together
-- get around a city/town together to discover its hidden gems
-- visit an interesting public event (organ recital, for example)
However, not into those things which become enjoyable only after drinking/smoking.
Otherwise I'm pretty much open for suggestions.
