About Me

I grew up in Brighton on the English south coast from which I have moved to Manchester to study a liberal arts degree. I have tried to cultivate my strong passion for theatre (especially acting), literature and film, all pursuits which I try to be as open-minded and diverse in my approach towards. I try to maintain a liberal perspective on political issues, and like to keep myself informed on different people's histories and political backstories. Ensuring that I am fair and considerate with all people is something I strive to maintain, and is an approach that I expect from others in return. If it is an issue for you that I am gay, then perhaps I would not be the best person to host.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love getting different perspectives on people and the world, and enjoy discussing and learning about different cultures, languages and national histories. I am hoping to learn French this year so that I am better able to travel in the future, and don't fall into the category of so many Britons who only ever learn to speak their native language. I think the prospect of Couchsurfing appeals to me as it seems like the best way to really get to know a place, as I generally find staying in hotels a bit boring, unnecessarily private and expensive!

Interests

I am a huge fan of the theatre and hope to work somewhere within it in the future. I also love the visual arts, film and literature and am happy to talk about these things with anyone who is also willing to listen and share themselves. I am also interested in politics and current affairs, but know when to keep my mouth shut when things get too heated. I also enjoy swimming and cycling to help keep my body fit and, to follow the recommendations of Albert Einstein, to keep my mind and my thoughts clear!

Music, Movies, and Books

Bit of a mix with music - a big fan of jazz, funk and soul, classical, rock, 80s pop etc. (the list goes on, you're probably already bored reading).

I have no favourite film/director but am a huge fan of Pedro Almodóvar, David Lynch and Adam Curtis

My reading is also ranged, but I generally prefer 20th century fiction and try to read books from as many different countries as possible.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking in the Himalayas on the last leg of the journey was possibly one of the most awe-inspiring experiences I've had, ruined only slightly by the fact that my shoes were 1 size too small.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know lots of the names for parts of the body! (Residual from my 6 months as a medical student)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Pretty good at doing impersonations, recreations and accents (all of course with sensitivity!). I am also a big fan of food, both in terms of cooking and eating, and would love to come help out in the kitchen and share a bottle of wine!

Countries I’ve Visited

Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ghana, Iceland, India, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom
