About Me

21/03/19 - I'm currently driving my van around Europe looking for adventure and easy going people to hang out with. My van can sleep four, currently it's myself and my mate, but I am happy to accommodate. I thought I would reactivate my couch surfing app as technically I have a couch people can 'surf' on again :) If not and people are willing to let us park up on their drive ways and spend an evening all hanging out that's great too!

Currently driving through Belgium, heading to the Pyrenees and then across to Portugal (rough plan)

I’m a twenty-four year old free spirit from a region of the UK called the West Midlands. About five years ago I made the best decision of my life and moved down south to Bristol. I came here to study a degree in journalism which I graduated from in the early summer of 2016. Since then I have been taking life easy, firstly working on the bar and cafe city’s art-house cinema - The Watershed and now making cocktails and serving pints in The Pipe and Slippers . When I’m not at work I spend my time digging this city, constantly finding new and inspiring people, incredible experiences and amazing music.

Last year I moved into a Luton van that I have been converting. I live in it full time and have just completed my first full winter in it (Brhh!) It's an amazing learning experience and I feel it has helped me grow and understand the world immensely. For now it's just me in it, but who knows when it is finished I can go back to hosting couch surfers!

I have hosted in the past in my old home, and hopefully you can see from the feedback that I get on well with people and we usually end up having a chilled time :) I’m at the point in my life where I don’t want to be tied down with a career, a mortgage or a load of debts. I want to go and check out what the world has to offer and fill my life with stupid mistakes that lead to amazing stories.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing seems to be the most exciting and accessible way to explore the world. The thought of hanging out with a local who knows their area inside and out is always going to be way more enriching than simply scratching the surface of a city through a series of guidebooks and tours! I like to think that if somebody was to visit my city, Bristol, I could show them a much better time than what Timeout or Lonely Planet may suggest!

With Couchsurfing you actually get to meet real locals with their fingers on the pulse of what’s going on. I’d much rather chat over a cup of tea in your living room than silently stare at my phone in the breakfast hall of a big hotel! Not only can you have a real conversation, you might just make a friend for life.

The other huge draw of Couchsurfing, and I’m sure I’m not the only one, is the cost. Having lots of friends across the globe who are willing to let you surf their couch means I can save more money, enabling me to see more of this amazing world of ours. We’re all human beings, trying to help our fellow man and get along, so why not extend that to our homes?

I feel like Bristol is one of those cities that everybody should come and experience, so it is my duty to try and get as many people here and comfortable as possible.

It feels like Couchsurfing may be one of the few ways left for us to get a truly authentic travelling experience, and not just one bundled up in an all-inclusive package holiday.

Music, Movies, and Books

A few of my favourite books:
On The Road (Jack Kerouac).
Ham on Rye (Charles Bukowski)
The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho)

I'm a sucker for a good documentary, such as Planet Earth or Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends. My favourite TV show would probably have to be House of Cards, never did I think American politics could be so dark and emotive! (Well, until recently of course...)

One of my favourite films that I was lucky enough to see for free at work, is Captain Fantastic. It is about a family who live off grid, deep in the wilderness of Washington. If you're into self-sufficiency and anarchism then check it out.

When it comes to the kind of music I like, there's too much to narrow down! So I'll just list the genres I'm into: Trance, Ghetto Funk, Disco, Techno, Tek, Dnb, Jungle, Ragga, Hip Hop, Electronic

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I stayed with a totally self-sufficient community of tipi and yurt dwellers out in the middle of the Welsh countryside. I found it personally amazing as it was incredibly inspiring to experience such a way of life so connected to nature.

Teach, Learn, Share

We are constantly learning, growing and developing ourselves as we meet new people. I would love to share with you what I have learned so far in my few years on this planet. Likewise, I like to try and take something positive away from everybody I meet.

There's loads of stuff in Bristol that's worth sharing! To name a few: The Mound, The Canteen, The Watershed, Stokes Croft, St Werburghs, Cabot Tower, King Street, Hydra, Lakota, Tribe of Frog.... To name a few ;)

I have a passion for learning about people's way of life, particularly their homes! I spent last year going around documenting alternative housing here in the UK and it has just supplied endless amounts of inspiration for my own life. So much so that I am now in the midst of saving up to by my own van to live and travel in. Here's a link to the site if you want to find out more:
