About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be brave enough to accept life on its terms and learn lessons from its teachers.

ABOUT ME

Once chased dollars - now, chase dreams. Just a simple guy trying to make a difference in the world. Single dad ill financed to travel the world with his son - so, bringing the world to his son.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. (Mark Twain).

...nothing so liberalizes a man and expands the kindly instincts that nature put in him as travel and contact with many kinds of people. (Mark Twain)

In the end, I've come to believe in something I call "The Physics of the Quest." A force in nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity. The rule of Quest Physics goes something like this: If you're brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter, old resentments, and set out on a truth-seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher and if you are prepared, most of all, to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be withheld from you. (Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat, Pray, Love).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

UPDATE: OCT 2017

It has been a long while since participating.
Life has been full of changes.
Living with my girlfriend and our kids has the house pretty full and makes hosting a challenge. But, you never know--might be able to open the couch up.

Also, work situation has changed. Opened up my own business in creating, booking, promoting and writing about local entertainment and events. Highly concentrated on LIVE Music. So, the availability to be home to host is not what it used to be. However, for those coming through the area, you can find LIVE Music and Entertainment options to do while here (also, looking to include area hikes and description). Check it out on the website at thedesertpulse.com or on Facebook at facebook.com/thedesertpulse

-----------------
Currently, by hosting - which may include staying at my home, camping out on my farm, providing a meal, hooking up another location/hiking guide, etc.

Learning and teaching myself and my son (through personal interaction) about people and cultures from around the globe. Making friends from every region of the world. Humanizing the peoples of the world and making it easier to accept and love the differences through the similarities.

Eventually, I hope my son and I might get out and extend our backyard by traveling and meeting folks from all areas.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My friend has done this and I met one of the surfers recently and thought it would be cool.

I had no idea how much I would love this. I'm truly addicted. I would have someone here every night if I could. My son is enjoying it as much or more than I am. We truly enjoy meeting people and learning about their lives.

Interests

I enjoy farming and wish I could do it full time (someday). In the meantime, I have a little hobby farm where my son and I pretend to be big time. We grow a little food in the garden, have chickens and a small herd of Dexter cows. The highlight of our year is taking them to the State Fair.
