About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to simplify life after having worked for a life in the suburbs with my family for many years. It's adventure time!

ABOUT ME

After having worked as a forklift mechanic in Montreal and Toronto, the travel bug hit me and I became a truck driver for nine years. It brought me to 48 US states and nine Canadian provinces and allowed me to earn a decent income for my family and myself. My daughters are now grown up and I am single again. Driving truck is ultimately a very unhealthy lifestyle and I have just stopped doing it recently. My new goal is to travel the world on a bicycle and write about the adventures. I ave prepared myself by getting a certification as an English language teacher, specializing in business English. This should make it possible to earn a living in any country I might decide to stay in. The first goal is to explore Latin America, get to know some fantastic places and people there and make connections to last a lifetime.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is too short to waste it at work.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

If you let me stay at your place, I am available to do any odd job for you that might need to get done. If nothing else, I can cook dinner. If something is wrong with your car and you have basic tools, I'll help you with that. Of course I can help anyone trying to learn the English language. Lessons are free if I get to stay at your place.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have recently traveled all along the Gulf of Mexico (Orlando to Cancun) purely by bicycle. Couch surfing has helped a great deal to make this experience unforgettable. I'm grateful to all the nice people who welcomed me during this trip and of course the couch surfers of Veracruz, who sure know how to party! I'm looking forward to hosting people once I'm settled somewhere later this spring or summer, but travel is an addiction and the next trip might be just around the corner.

Music, Movies, and Books

The list would be very long, but is not really important enough to even bother with.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing was the ice storm in Quebec in 1998. This was a major catastrophe and I lived through it, heating my house with a wood stove and wood provided by emergency services.
Just completed my first ever bicycle trip. It took me from Orlando, FL all along the Gulf coast to Cancun (with numerous detours). A book about it is in the works.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll teach you about automotive mechanics, about trucking in North America, the English language, how to cook a good meal with whatever you have in the fridge. I'll listen to anything.
....All of this still applies, but today I can also give you a ton of advice(....and perhaps bore you to death) about traveling by bicycle. I'm talking "real" trip here, not going to the grocery store.

Countries I’ve Visited
