About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get myself from my front door in the UK to some final destination somewhere in Spain. Oh, on a bicycle. I've never attempted any long distance cycling before. I think my previous record has been a very relaxing 20 miles with a pub break in between! However, I am very determined and am lucky enough not to have any timescale on my journey, so I can take each day as it comes.

I've no idea what to expect from this trip but that is exactly how I want to undertake it. The bicycle will give me freedom which most other forms of transport won't and I am excited to see where I end up!

ABOUT ME

I've recently found myself in the exciting position of having no responsibilities!

A change in circumstances, lead to a change of plans and a chance meeting has now lead me from home to the USA and back and now onto Europe. At home I've been doing some casual bar work, it's so much fun, I love the atmosphere, the beer and the people!

I love dancing and can barely keep my feet still if there's music playing. Whether it's partner dancing or solo, I'll be up on my feet.

I have a pretty silly sense of humour (Lesley Neilson is a hero to me!) and try to find the fun in everyday situations. Why not be laughing?

Things that excite me the most are music and food. Also animals, they are the funniest things! Why are goats so needlessly competitive?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet and greet and learn about the world through others.

To push myself and see how much I can give and where it takes me.

To find friends to influence my journey. Heck, what would be the point of travelling if I stayed in my own head the whole time?

Interests

Swing dancing, riding my motorbike, cooking (and eating!), reading, music and of course, travel. I enjoy being outdoors, walking, hiking and cycling. I love woodland areas, there's something exciting about being tucked away amongst all the trees.

Goats. I really like goats.

Music, Movies, and Books

I LOVE music. I'll be the first to admit that I'm by no means a muso. If I like what I hear, I'll listen to it. It's a fairly simple relationship.
My favourite music is constantly changing. I love exploring new music through the people I meet. I think I am most definitely settling into a love of the Blues, the trip I took around the American South will be a major part of this love affair!
For a bit more context, here are some of my fav's: Etta James, Alabama 3, Aretha Franklin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown, Creedence Clearwater, Dr Feelgood, Gaslight Anthem, Jimmy Cliff, King Curtis, Zeppelin, Manu Chao and so many more.
This just scratches the surface of my music taste, but gives you a bit of context, come and meet me to find out more!

I'm currently a huge fan of James Baldwin. I'm also a sucker for a Michael Crichton novel and I love talking about Jurassic Park! I'm the same with novels and films as I am with music; I like a wide variety and am always open to new suggestions.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So far, this has been my journey down through Eastern and Southern Africa. For 4 months a friend and I backpacked our way from Nairobi to Jo'burg. It was a huge eye opener and really widened my horizons. I can't wait to go back with more experience. So many places to stop before then, though!
Within that journey the 3 things which stood out...
Safari in the Serengeti
Volunteering in Nairobi National Hospital
Couchsurfing. We met the nicest people and were so warmly welcomed into their lives. We even went back to one of our hosts to celebrate the New Year with them.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Humour, I have some terrible one liners!
Cooking and eating and talking about food.
Perhaps a few swing dancing moves?
Cribbage!

Ask and will try to give! I'm a people pleaser!
