I am a 25 Year old Russian/American who lives in California, and works in environmental consulting. I've always been an outdoor junkie, whether skiing, hiking, traveling, or just hanging out on the beach. I decided to take a big step in my life and quit my professional job to travel for 9 months. I have always wanted to see the world and experience different cultures first-hand. I have been backpacking mostly solo since September 15th. I don't think its really fair to call it solo since i've made some great friends along the way and have been fortunate enough to meet-up with many of them along my travels.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

Regardless where I travel, backpackers and fellow travelers always recommend switching it up and staying a few nights with fellow couchsurfers. Now that I have, I can see why... It's nice to get a locals point of view, see things from their perspective, and switch things up from the hostel scene. A big draw for me is getting outside of cities and trekking and hiking the beautiful landscapes. Staying with like-minded couchsurfers allows me to learn about the local trails and sights and maybe have a hiking/trekking partner in the area.

Music: I'm pretty all over the place: some days I might kickback and throw on some classic rock, and other days you might find me head-bobbing to some hip hop. You can find me dancing like a fool to techno/house/electro at the clubs, or just as likely getting down to some hip hop and R&B. Been to Coachella the last 6 years!

Movies: Where to start... I'm addicted to movies as much as I am addicted to music. Even amidst the wanderlust of traveling from country to country, sometimes you just need to settle-in for the night and watch a good movie. Anything by Tarantino.

Books: One of my favorite aspects of longer trips is the down-time spent reading on busses/trains/planes. My favorite Authors are Ernest Hemingway, Graham Greene, and Haruku Murakami.

Trekking the Q-circuit in Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile. Aside from the breathtaking landscapes and challenging trails, what made the experience unforgettable was the group of people I was fortunate enough to complete the trail with. Initially, I was planning on heading to Patagonia on my own to trek solo, but through serendiptious events in Peru, I ended up in a group of four. A single off-hand comment made to a fellow backpacker in Huacachina, Peru, resulted in us joining together and meeting 2 other backpackers to complete an 8 day trek.
