Things have changed on Couchsurfing as well. I paid for access to my account but am deeply disappointed and hate it. I don't mind the money, but it just doesn't feel right after years of dedication to hosting to be forced to pay. I would love to not put anything negative on my profile but this has to be said.

I grew up in Salzburg. It was, however, not my favorite city until the age of 25. I returned, after extensive travel and living in Spain, and worked as a Bike Taxi Tour Guide. That was when I saw the city through the eyes of its visitors. They told me how beautiful Salzburg is until I believed it myself. I kept working in tourism and mostly I also kept the love for my city.

In 2018 I became a certified tour guide after attending school for almost two years. I founded the first free walking tour company in Salzburg, https://freewalkingtoursalzburg.com and now make a living from what I love. Meeting people and telling stories. I would appreciate any help on the creative process of branding my business.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

"I am on Couchsurfing to meet people, spend a good time, share knowledge or explore places." I would have replied in my early days on Couchsurfing.

These are still the main reasons, however, the idea became more diverse along the way. The more beautiful people I met, the more aspects came to mind. On one of my websites I wrote an article about it.

The article doesn't exist anymore, but it doesn't matter anyway.

Interessen

My interests are many. Too many. That’s why I force myself to limit them. At the moment I limit them to writing, photography, and design as well as history and storytelling. I try to practice all of them every day and would love to practice with you if you are into any of them.

Movement is rather a necessity than an interest. Necessary to keep a balance and my sanity. I CrossFit, swim, cycle, and lift weights. The same goes for meditative practices and nutrition. I practice breathing and cold exposure on most days and try to stay in Ketosis or fast intermittently.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Good music for me has to have two sides. Good music represents life and there is nothing ever black and white in life. Therefore good music is never only cheerful but it plants a spark of hope. It’s melancholic but with a subtle sense of humor.

When Bob Dylan was asked what he wants to say in addition to his songs, he said: “Good luck” and they asked him why he doesn’t say that in his songs. He answered: “Oh, yes I do, every song tails off with "Good Luck, – I hope you make it."

Or in the words of Leonard Cohen:
“Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.”

Dylan and Cohen followed me for most of my life.

And then there are the mad ones. I love Tom Waits for his madness.

Movies. I watched a lot of them. My favorites are the ones with the same qualities as good music. The ones that leave you crying but with a smile on your face. They are rare. Finding Neverland, Lady Vengeance, as it is in Heaven, the Fountain or Good Will Hunting for example.

And then again there are the mad ones. In China they eat dogs, Rum Diary, Oldboy, Trainspotting, The big Lebowski, Snatch, Lock, Stock and two smoking Barrels, Chungking Express, I’m not there, Sin City, Slim Susie, Django. They are plenty.

And TV series. I admit that I am addicted. I stopped watching movies years ago and instead constantly searched for series. Some of the good ones I found are Fargo, Narcos, True Detective, Game of Thrones, the Bridge (not the remake!), the Handmaid's Tale, the Leftovers, the Wire, Better Call Saul, Stranger Things and Mr.Robot just to mention a few.

I don’t read much. If I read, I read non-fiction. I read about writing, history and other subjects I want to pick up. If I read fiction it would be Dostojewski. My favorite books of all time, however, are probably The Prophet by Khalil Gibran and The little Prince.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I can teach what I know. I have a broad yet shallow knowledge of creative skills like webdesign, photography and writing. If you are into any of that, I would like to exchange knowledge and if you have help to offer on any of my projects I would appreciate that very much.

I know about nutrition and fitness, practice the Wim Hof Method and meditate. If you know Yoga or similar practices I would like to learn from you and practice together. We can also workout, hike, swim or cycle together if I have time.
