About Me
Hey, everyone nice to meet you!
I'm Gesine and I'm currently living in Japan on a working holiday visa. It has been my dream to come to Japan for almost 5 years and I'm very happy to finally be here! I've been interested in learning about Japanese Culture, language and literature for a longer time now and I want to deepen my knowledge. I'm on a beginner level Japanese despite this, I endeavour to study as much as possible to become more fluent. It is very important for me as I want to understand Japanese culture and people. I'm always happy to learn more about Japan no matter if it's cooking, traditional architecture or Japanese philosophy.
I love talking about languages and the differences between cultures and I'm always down to have a chat. I lived in Western Germany for most of my life but I lived on year in the Netherlands as well. I speak Dutch on a conversational level and Chinese on a elementary level. I am also very happy to teach you German or English if you want to :)
I can find joy in a lot of things but my favourite activities are yoga, meditation and cooking new recipes.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me anytime and I try to answer as fast as possible!
Hope you have a lovely day and may be we'll meet soon :))
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I joined couchsurfing because I think you have to live with locals to fully understand a country. I really want to get to know Japanese customs and traditions or Japanese daily life in general. I love to meet new people and have a chat about our languages and countries.

I try to watch as little TV as possible because I enjoy doing active things a lot but my favourite shows are Jujutsu Kaisen, Game of Thrones and Hunter x Hunter.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In my first week here in Tokyo I got lost on my way back home and two people helped me find my way back. I didn't have mobile data at that time so I couldn't use Google Maps so one of them accompanied me almost all the way back home which made me very happy. We stayed in contact since. I was very touched by this kindness for a random stranger.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would be very happy to have a cultural and language exchange. I can teach you English or German. I would also be very happy to learn Japanese as well. I'm currently studying very hard to become better.
