About Me

Hi, guys!
My name is Giacomo and I come from the North of Italy, I live in the Alps. Hiking is one of my greatest passions but I also love to play my accordion and make some music with friends. I'm currently studying my Master in Forest and Nature Conservation at the University of Wageningen, in the Netherlands.
My friends say I am flexible, highly social and polite. I would also add I like history and art.

It's not much, but you can find some more information about me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/giacomo.pontara.7

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When you arrive in a new city, you are alone and you would just go to the most famous touristic places with a guide book or smartphone. Knowing local people who can give you suggestions or show you their cities if they have time is much better. I hope in this way to make new friends, to share my Italian culture for example by preparing Italian dinners, to visit new cities and to share opinions with others.

I'm really interested in knowing this new possibility to travell even because I'd like to meet new people of different places who can explain me their culture...even because I can return the favour of the hospitality I'd receive from other people of Couchsurfing.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love classic music (especially Bach, Mozart, Chopin and Debussy) and Piazzolla's tango as well as rock music and blues. But I'm also curious to listen to the music of the place that I am visiting.

Favourite film is The Sting, The Lord of the Rings and Forrest Gump,

I like to read historic novels of authors like Manfredi and Follet. Classic authors come anyway first. Now I'm finishing Crime and Punishment of Dostoevskij.... highly recommended.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've worked for Agronomi e Forestali Senza Frontiere (Agronomists and Rangers Without Borders) on a mission in Kenya.

I did one year in exchange programme in Erasmus at the German University of Freiburg.
My best long experience I've ever done...

I did one month in the North of Norway, working as workawayer first in Vesterålen and then in Lofoten, by helping opening B&B.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Italian dishes (e.g. Tiramisù)
I can prepare the dinner for us
If you want to join with traditional dishes for dinner (of course it's optional), I'd like to learn how to prepare them.
I love to walk in the evening in the city center because the city seems different with the artificial lights and is many times amazing. We can walk together and share some experiences of travelling.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to listen to the other people when they speak with me. If I can, I always try to give some useful pieces of advice.
I'd be glad also to share many Italian receipts, teach Italian or German.
