Overview
About Me
Hi, I'm Gian (吉安) -- a Filipino traveler residing in Taiwan! I decided to stay here some time in February 2016 to pursue my career as a science researcher. On the side, I try to travel once in a while, either alone or with company of others, to escape the pressure of our work environment.
On weekends, I usually go to dance training/sessions/classes along with locals. This is one of the ways I interact with the locals of Taiwan, and I see this as an opportunity to better learn their language and culture.
I've been to some tourist spots in this country, particularly those that are easily accessible by bus or train (mostly in and near Taipei). My taste for traveling ranges from appreciating art to walking along winding roads to wandering nature hikes and trails. I also like the feeling of immersing and connecting with the environment.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Aside from traveling to different places, I am fond of learning the culture of different people I meet. I believe exchanging thoughts and experiences allow travelers to explore the places they visit in a deeper sense. Conversations like this can really keep me chatting for a whole day up to late night.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
To those who wish to stay at my place, please send me a request ONLY if you have references both from surfers and from hosts. I am not really a demanding host, however, I require this for a handful of reasons.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I can only think of one thing: balancing my career with activities that I love.
I bet a lot of people will say that it's not really special, but if the list includes "completing PhD degree", "dancing", and "traveling", I think that can be counted as "amazing".
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm willing to teach our own language (Tagalog) to anyone who wants to learn! Also, I'm very enthusiastic to learn a new language.
I can also offer you travel tips and ideas if ever you decide to visit my beloved Philippines! First give away tip: don't stay in Manila, but rather go to the islands/provinces :)
