About Me
ABOUT ME
My friends would say (and not in this particular order), that I'm funny, intelligent, adventurous, and lazy (those last two are not mutually exclusive, by the way).
"I loafe and invite my soul,
I lean and loafe at my ease .... observing a spear of summer grass."
Walt Whitman.
PHILOSOPHY
‘Good’ conversation ... allows conversational partners to challenge one another and to learn from one another in a fashion which brings all things about each partner into play.
(Not my words).
Also: To live sustainably & responsibly; from each as they can afford, to each as they deserve; not to take more than I can someday give.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Not related to the website, but: While hitchhiking on the French riviera, I was dropped off outside Aix-en-Provence one night. Because I was not courageous enough to continue soliciting rides after dark, I decided to find a hostel in town. I asked some English-speaking girls, who told me they didn't know of any, but were kind enough to let me, a total, unverified stranger, sleep on their couch for the night.
Interests
"People I meet .... the effect upon me of my early life .... of the ward and city I live in .... of the nation,
The latest news .... discoveries, inventions, societies .... authors old and new"
(Whitman again)
Also: Traveling - sleeping on people's floors, eating their food, meeting their friends, and being very gracious for it all. I like to play basketball and go hiking/camping. Otros cosas que me gustan: Good conversation; history, particularly the stories of Spanish/Portuguese conquistadors in the "new world"; language and grammar.

Hiking a mountain next to Geneva in the middle of the night and almost getting lost, but reaching the top in time to see the sun rise. (And making it to the bottom in time for class that morning).
