About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Light up my world

ABOUT ME

I am a happy guy. I think it's great that people open their doors to strangers. I try to be animated and excellent, and then I try not to try. And then I remember how much I love paradoxes.

PHILOSOPHY

I majored in philosophy in school, and love it. I like generalities and patterns of all sorts.

I see a balance in all things. And a balance of balance, meaning an occasional lack of balance. Afterall, a theory has to apply to itself. Things ebb and flow.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far I have surfed a few times, and am excited about the new possibilities of hosting folks in Chicago. However, my biggest participation is probably in spreading the wonders of this site to everyone I meet.

It is the best site on the internet.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Everyone is great, and everyone says everyone they've met is great. It's like trickle down greatness, or a pyramid scheme of greatness. Basically, you people are good by me, way to grab some life.

Interests

The search for truth, the occasional illusion of actually getting somewhere.
Sports, competition, and games of all sorts.
Chess, basketball, frisbee... all games!
Dancing (breakdancing, swing, general groovin')
Poetry and music- sucking the marrow out of life without choking on the bone
I like to do pretty much anything, and am constantly trying to narrow the field of things I don't do.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have gotten better about reading recently,and am currently loving "Godel, Escher, and Bach."
I have in the past loved:
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
100 Years of Solitude
Siddartha
Ishmael
All the Vonnegut
Dave Barry's Guide to Guys
The Witches
and after giving him a try, I don't like Hemmingway. I know, I know.

Movies:
American Beauty, The Big Kahuna, Clerks
Stripes, Monty Python, South Park
The Matrix, Terminator 2, Indiana Jones 1&3
The Magnificent 7, 12 Angry Men
and on and on and on..

Music:
Atmosphere and Dan Bern
Loudon Wainwright, tupac, Rolling Stones, Liquid Soul, Aesop Rock, Billy Joel, Phil Ochs, Dylan, Black Star, Steve Goodman

And so on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I began a day in Australia with a mild case of claustrophobia. After 6 hours in a cave, I could have lived down there forever, without anxiety or fear.

~~~~~
One night partying in Santa Barbara, I was full of energy and felt invincible. I was talking to everyone I could, and eventually ran to the busiest corner of the street, dropped to my knees and yelled as loud as I could, "My name is Gideon Bob, who wants to meet me!?"
Kindof proud, kindof embarrassed, kindof totally in the cs spirit, I think.
Teach, Learn, Share
As far as teaching.... well, chess and breakdancing are probably my two most demonstrable skills.
And in terms of learning- I love to learn. If we meet, I would love to hear about what you love. Almost anything can be interesting in the proper context, with the proper enthusiasm.
And I'd like to be able to tread water for more than 5 seconds. I don't get why I'm so bad at it.
