About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To visit all of the countries in Western Europe. I finished with all the US states, I gotta work on something! Not that I have anything against Eastern Europe, but one step at a time!

ABOUT ME

I'm me. I like me. Most other people seem to like me too because I'm outgoing and open to making new friends. I have a wide spread of friends across the US and scattered around the world, and although I'm not great at staying in touch constantly, because I'm not a big fan of Facebook, I tend to make friends with the type of people who enjoy it when I send them an email saying "I'm coming to town in a few months/weeks/days/insert amount of time here, wanna hang out?" and don't hold it against me if it's been awhile since we've talked.

Also, I can sing the words of the French National Anthem to any tune I know without practicing. Seriously, it's a gift. Except those two lines near the end I can never remember, but that goes to show that it's not something I worked at being able to do, I just found myself doing it one day while driving in the car.

PHILOSOPHY

Be excellent to each other.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm working on that. Right now, I'm participating by getting to understand what options there are, getting excited, and spreading the word to like-minded friends!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I like to travel, and the sleeping part of it has never been the most important part to me. Youth hostel, couch, floor, distant cousin, I've tried them all. The sleeping surface hasn't been important, the people have.
I have slept on the floor for several conferences, and on the couch for a few more, and shared rooms with strangers at even more, and these experiences have always ended up more interesting than the times I've had my own private hotel room.

Music, Movies, and Books

Authors:
John Scalzi
Orson Scott Card
Tamora Pierce
Agatha Christie
Robert Heinlein (his YA stuff mostly)
But seriously, I'm a librarian, I love books. It's probable that if you like books, any type of books, I'll like something in the same genre. I never thought I'd love sports books, but I can't get enough of high altitude mountain climbing books!

Movies:
Oh how I love you, let me count the ways. I'd be happy to see if your list of movies matches up with mine. I watch my fair share of blockbusters, but you can't go wrong with classics like:
The Court Jester
The Animated Robin Hood
Revenge of the Nerds
Police Academy
Die Hard (really, anything with Alan Rickman!)
The Three Musketeers (really, anything with Oliver Platt, The West Wing anyone?)
Clue (really, anything with Tim Curry (see: The Three Musketeers)
and oh so many more!
Hunt for Red October

Music, I love and appreciate music, but I find when I'm listening to it, I want to be listening, but in general I'd rather be reading, so I don't actively listen to that much music. My biggest areas of knowledge are:
show tunes
classical
comedy (Tom Lehrer, Alan Shermann, The Smothers Brothers, Flanders and Swan, and yes, I do know this makes me sound like a 60 year old, not a 30 year old)
Anything the Dartmouth College Marching band played (I was head of the Kazoo section!)
Anything on my frat's jukebox (Tainted Love, Devil Went Down to Georgia, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Rainbow Connection, Hey Hey we're the Monkey's)
Oh, and I must admit I love montages, and the music that goes with them is also often fun. Especially the montage song from Team America.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been to all 50 US states, and driven to the 49 you can drive to (damn Hawaii!!! I'm just waiting for the bridge to be completed!)
