About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn as much as possible so I can write my great novel. Or just so I know a lot and can act smug about it.

ABOUT ME

As an eternal late bloomer, I have the advantage AND disadvantage to be quite a bit younger in my head than my ID card would tell you. Far from being ready to settle down, I want to travel for a couple more years. I'm currently living in Amsterdam. I'm crazy about sounds and words, so it's rather logical I'm also a songwriter. I love music, I love books, and most of all I love people. People bring stories, stories bring conversations, conversations make for nights to remember.

PHILOSOPHY

I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.
- Charles Bukowski

Everything is art if you do it in a black sweater.
- Homer Simpson

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host, I surf, I attend meetings on occasion.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met awesome people in Istanbul, in (and on the road to) Barcelona, in Milan, in Cologne, in Münster, in Rotterdam and in Palermo. I've hosted people from France, Germany, England, USA, Japan, Czech Republic, Spain, Canada, Holland and quite a few other places that I forget right now.

Interests

Music: I play drums (quite well), guitar (the basics) and piano (awfully badly). I also like to sing and sometimes people say I'm pretty good at it. I think those people are mainly deaf. I wrote a few songs, but the big world tours are still far away. If you want, you can listen here: https://soundcloud.com/littleboyandthefatmen

Writing: I hope to once write at least one book. My style is pretty good - if I may say so myself - but so far, I haven't been able to make up a story that's good enough to fill a hundred pages or more. I keep writing down observations and stories in my growing collection of notebooks, though, so don't be surprised if one day you're a character in one of my stories.

Reading: I almost literally read everything, including literary world classics, art history, milk bottles, newspapers, poetry and your profile.

Music, Movies, and Books

I know next to nothing about movies, so if you've got any recommendations, I'll be glad to hear them.

Music: I mostly listen to rock music, but I have just about every genre in my collection. I'm quite picky, but I don't use genres as boundaries. A few names to give an idea: Kyuss, Mastodon, At The Drive-In, The Gaslight Anthem, Hot Water Music, Radiohead, Tool, The Mars Volta, Mark Lanegan, Frank Turner, The Melvins.

Books: I like Nick Hornby, Jack Kerouac, Douglas Coupland, Roddy Doyle, and many others.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitch-hiking through the whole of France all the way down to Barcelona, staying in the most amazing places with the most amazing people. I still doubt if I'll ever be happier than that summer. If that sounds sad, don't worry: I see it as an ambition to try to top it.

My first visit to Istanbul, also my first experience with traveling all alone. Met some amazing people, learned a lot about myself, ate some fantastic food and fell in love with a beautiful, beautiful city - and then I moved there one and a half years later.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach me to play anything on a musical instrument, to cook a local dish, to order a beer in your language, and I'll be very grateful. Teach me how to dance and I'll be your friend forever - because it's impossible. Also, I really want to learn to draw a bit better.

I can teach drums, a little bit of guitar, English and Dutch, and I can annoy you with a million small facts about music, beer or science.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Palestine, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Belgium, Netherlands, Turkey
