About Me

Current Misions

Finding a job for now i guess (?), just fulfilled my two objectives, which are: travelling to South America & Morocco. Will try to find a job to fuel my next travel haha.

General Info

For starter, you can just call me Gil. I'm 22 Years old, born and bred in Jakarta- Indonesia and has pretty much spent the rest of my life there. Since i'm studying in the UK right now, might as well use my time and try to see the rest of the world through others' lens.

for some people, they say that I'm the representation of the socially awkward penguin meme, well it is partially true I guess, but hey, I'm still sociable and fun to talk to, you betcha.

Philosophical standing

"Nothing Ventured, Nothing (L)Earned" because there are many things that we can do in this world, though sometimes we don't have the courage to do so. I guess a small dose of courage could make all the difference in one's life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm not actually that keen with touristy places, even though I would end up seeing them. Personally, I think Couchsurfing is the best way to travel; meeting new people, getting to know each other. Recently an enthusiast Couchsurfer said this to me:

"Couchsurfing in general makes me want to live all over the world, I don’t see the point of living the same life over and over again and then calling it a life"

What he said hits hard, so I want to start fresh with Couchsurfing since the past 2 years of inactivity.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've first used Couchsurfing in 2013 for my trip to Japan, I stayed there with 3 guests from Tokyo and Osaka and it was really great experiences. The more recent one was when I was trying to actually do my dissertation's data collection in London and for me it was an eye (re)opening to the realm of Couchsurfing again and how great people can be.

Interests

i like traveling, may it be domestic or abroad, but the domestic one are more often. I love trying out new food in new places , love to observe locals behavior in new places.

love to make friends I guess... but then again, who doesn't love new people and friends? (some people) Also, I like music, video games, graphic design, photography and movies. would love to try new things, as the strokes' said "you only live once"

Music, Movies, and Books

Music :

The Strokes, Julian Casablancas + The Voidz, Little Joy, Monkey Majik, Belle and Sebastian, Sigur Ros, Coldplay, Kings of Convenience, She & Him, Oasis, Radio Head, Sore, Swan Dive, and Mocca

Well of course there are others that I like as well, this is just the one that really crossed my mind, you might say that I am a pretty much open with any kind of music that brings joy to my ears! (well that was very unclear)

Movies :
Studio Ghibli Films, Pixars, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings & The Hobbits. well mostly fantasy and sci-fi films.

Series :
Fargo, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black, The Walking Dead, Vikings, Spartacus, The legend of Avatar, well there's a lot but hey, I think this is enough haha

Books :
I don't read that often, but I do enjoy David Sedaris' works

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to France to find postgraduate school without a proper language course beforehand! it was crazy, even though I live at my friend's place, It was still a bold move. went to several university interviews in French!! (although my French was only 3 months old!). Most of the time I only survived the first 10 minutes of the interview, then the complicated questions knocked me down. In the end I didn't get any of them.. then I randomly applied for a scholarship in the UK and it was unexpected, I was accepted. so here I am, in my postgraduate course in Lancaster University.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach my mother language Bahasa Indonesia, and share you some information about my country i guess. Well we can share anything i guess.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Finland, France, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, Indonesia, United Kingdom
