关于我

CURRENT MISSION

I hosted travellers for two summers, with the total number being about a hundred. Then I turned off hosting so that I could work on some home projects. The conversations I had with the travellers inspired me to think differently about many things. Now, I am planning a trip to the United Kingdom and hope that hosts in England, Scotland, and Wales will accept me and offer me an overnight place. OR, I might spend the summer months in western North Carolina. I will tow my small camper and bring my dog and look for hosts who are pet friendly and would be accommodating to my towing my own bed.

ABOUT ME

I'm a retired writer, and I live in Savannah, Georgia USA. I eat organics mostly, and that seems to have been paying off for me because I enjoy good health. I know that England has many more laws that restrict foodstuff additives, and I am looking forward to learning about that. I plan to fly direct from Atlanta to London, rent a car, and drive all over the countryside. My 40-pound dog will be accompanying me, so I will be looking for hosts who will accept her. She is a certified Service Dog, so she is well-behaved, though always excited to meet people.

PHILOSOPHY

"Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without."

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I really enjoyed hosting, and now I want to see how much I will enjoy driving through the U. K. and spending an evening here and there with the people who live there. I read mostly British authors' works, especially detective stories. I want to see the places described in their books.
Because I have travelled all over the U. S. towing a camper, I am accustomed to having the bare essentials, so I am ready to step into any kind of environment.

If I decide to tow my camper and wander around western North Carolina during the summer, I would like the experience of meeting and interacting with hosts for conversation and relaxation. I'll be prepared to stay in campgrounds or at people's homes, if they accept me and my dog.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

During August and September of 2013, I had hosted 35 Couchsurfers. I enjoyed it very much, even though I told them that I don't feel like I am that great a host. I was enlightened by their stories, their lives, and their travels. I was constantly inspired by the depth of contemplation and experience of my Couchsurfers. The next summer, 2014, I started earlier and stayed "open" longer, hosting 65 Couchsurfers during that time. Summer of 2015, I decided to do some work on my house, and replaced my bathroom floor the next summer. So, I haven't opened for Couchsurfers for awhile now.

My next step into Couchsurfing is going to be as a traveller. I'm hoping to find some hosts who will invite me to occupy their couch or park my camper outside for a little stay.

兴趣

Don't be fooled by the grey hair; it's just the result of the passage of time. I like to see the funny side of most situations and to be with people who like to laugh and to "be out and about," as we say. The Couchsurfers who stayed with me had already signed up for that, so spending a little time as a traveller and meeting hosts of diverse origins and experiences is very appealing to me.

音乐、电影和书籍

I like to read and especially enjoy audiobooks. I enjoy planting trees and bushes, but I shy away from annuals because they are too labor-intensive. I have three music selections on Music Choice: Classical, Big Band/Swing, and Oldie Goldies. One of them is always playing.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I removed some walls from inside my house and then built a masonry heater in that central space. Because it is in reality a thermal-mass fireplace, it offers its radiant heat and provides a wonderful essence of warmth to my home. Actually, I didn't build the fireplace myself; I built the foundation and then brought in experienced men to create the structure.

教,学,和分享

The Couchsurfers who were coming to my door are leaving the security of the carousel and are stepping into the great white unknown. That is the theme of a watercolour painting by Newell I have in pride of place in my home, and it has been my outlook for many years. We learn little by holding onto the carousel pole and being afraid.

I'm planning a trip to England, Scotland, and Wales next summer. I plan to rent a car and drive all over (except in London, of course). I want to see the countryside and take my time. I am hoping to find some hosts who will let me and my dog, Sawyer, Couchsurf with them. I'm doing a feasibility study right now, but I'm thinking that I'll make it a two-month excursion, July and August.

Or, I might tow my camper through western North Carolina, staying in campgrounds or at Couchsurfing Hosts' homes. It is much cooler in that area than in Savannah in the summer.
