CURRENT MISSION

Currently I am exploring possibilities with employment or volunteering in the nonprofit sector. I am especially interested in permaculture, natural resource protection and social justice.

ABOUT ME

Who am I? Not wanting to define myself by any particular roles - though I very much enjoy and treasure my grandchildren. Since raising my family my community has widened. I am very involved in local politics and am planning on running for office in the fall. I am thrilled my name will be on the ballot with Obama. I ran away from teaching when I became too overwhelmed by the system, underwhelmed by support for teachers and students. Now I hope to revitalize myself by becoming more immersed in deeper life connections.

PHILOSOPHY

I relish time and health. I wish to reduce my footprint and share my skills, ideas and talents with others. We are all interdependent and more similar than different. I wish to reduce polarization without compromising my values. I try to learn from others with differing opinions and understand them just as I would like to be understood and accepted.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am enjoying considering couch surfing whenever I travel now - will look for others to introduce me to a place which I may not discover on my own. Hope to share my beautiful area with those that visit and wish to experience non-fudgie (tourist) secret spots!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Just getting started. My roommate is experienced and recently met others enjoying the experience. I have been a houseguest of many friends and relatives and am comfortable adapting most anywhere. I also came from family of 8 children so I am accustomed to sharing quarters and company of others.

Interests

Nature and her systems. anything outdoors without a motor in all seasons. How do I fit in to the overall scheme of things? I do not wish to be important, but would like to earn my place on this earth.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love foreign films, read lots of different fiction and expository. Currently reading Systems, Donella Meadows.
Recently saw an amazingly intimate concert by local folk musicians. I listen in wonderment at their young voices singing the wisdom of old souls.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have road tripped all across the US, numerous times with my children, camping and visiting family. I prefer the road less traveled but have taken in typical sights such as Mt Rushmore and Niagra Falls. Some of my most favorite places are right in Michigan, kayaking in Lake Superior, hiking and snow shoeing on secluded trails.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to cook, good at improvising without recipes. I am learning to be a better observer and slow my responses without judgment. I can sew, garden, wield a hammer - alas I did not get musical talent, can barely play the spoons! So important not to take myself too seriously!
