About Me

For pictures, please, go to my facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/mgirardis

I'm a dreamer, but I try to keep my feet on the ground for not flying away from Earth, unless it is done by plane and I have a parachute on my back. I recently got my PhD in Physics and currently I'm woking as a researcher in clinical Neuroscience in McGill University. I am a training skydiver and amateur musician.

I love hikes, climbing and camping. I've camped at the top of the largest peak in Santa Catarina, state where I grew up in Brazil, the Tabuleiro Mountain (1200m tall), and I used to climb every May 1st the Cambirela Mountain, the second largest mountain in Santa Catarina, Brazil (1000m tall). I also climbed the third largest Brazillian mountain at night, spending 2 days there, the Pico da Bandeira Mountain (2892m tall). I also like biking and, if everything works out, I plan to go cycling to the west coast next Summer!

I am up to go for cafe, a walk in the park (snowing or sunny), biking, sightseeing, star gazing, moon gazing, music jamming, beer, cake, burger, vegan, healthy food, camping, hiking, skiing, adventuring, chatting, partying...

LEARNING, basically! =)

Good subjects include: social vs natural constructs, the role of science in envisioning the world, reality vs subjectiveness, music vs mathematics, experimental music, and many more...

I just try to work everything out in order to achieve a better understanding of the objective and subjective world, of the people and the nature. To make some solid and concise contribution to science is my aim. To have a good time with people which surround me is a must. Thinking locally is the best way to act globally.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

CouchSurfing is all about learning... The world is very big and very diverse, so we must learn to live with differences and respect everyone. CouchSurfing helps achieving such objective by bringing travelers and hosters together, whether by staying, housing or simply meeting in events.

Music, Movies, and Books

Let's not try to be specific, because each of the things I have watched/read/listened have added to me a new piece or made me rethink my previous concepts. Science fiction is the main theme, specially those movies that make us wonder about our role in nature, in society and so on. Anything with Rock and Metal, and some classical, are the main musics. Some sort of physics, philosophy, math and teaching are good books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing fact I'd been through is the climbing of the Pico da Bandeira Mountain. We climbed at night and got the peak at 5:30 AM. The sun came up from the horizon as the clouds seemed an ocean full of life. I could just dive through that clouds. But all the suffering and pain from the hike were lost in that scene. All my past and future were stuck in that landscape. Certainly there're more places and scenes like these throughout the world, certainly there're more places and scenes like these throughout the universe. And certainly I was one of lots of living things who could see these scenes and feel these moments.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love to teach and learn: physics, portuguese, philosophy, math and education.
I'd love to learn: any way of life which is not my own. History and culture, music.
Everything should be shared, nothing should belong to only one person, it should belong to the humanity.

What I Can Share with Hosts
