About Me

“Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves.
[...] Only this moment is life.”

Hello! My name's Giulia/Julia
I'm scattered and whole;
On a journey towards the goal of having a small and sweet farming community and an animal rescue sanctuary.

I am an introvert but if I drink a bit or if we really hit it off, I won't stop talking.
I like to have conversations that challenge my perspective and make me change my mind and I enjoy talking about theories on the meaning of life, time, and space; philosophical questions; magic, and spirituality. And some other stuff too.

On a more practical note: I’m a patient, positive-minded, and completely flexible person who likes to take things and events as they come. You won't hear me complaining. I stand by the old sage: change it or accept it. So I'm fine most of the time.

My favorite way of spending time with friends: chilling with a drink and a cozy atmosphere with some music, candles, and food. I’m super laid back like that. I definitely prefer chilling over adventure, but still, I like to chill out in the open rather than indoors: I love feeling, smelling, seeing, getting myself dirty in nature, wild swimming, walking barefoot, standing in the rain, feeling the wind slapping my face, eating with my hands, camping... Forests, rivers, and the wind are my biggest passions!

I tend to question everything, even the most basic/given customs of society or widely-accepted scientific theories. I have a very rebellious mind, and I will not accept any truth for given for a very simple reason: nobody knows the truth. So I respect every single idea and I am open to listen to the craziest theories you have with an honest and welcoming spirit.

“Wisdom tells me I am nothing. Love tells me I am everything. And between the two my life flows.” N.M.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I honestly care for people and human connection.
Because I’m interested in understanding what meaning people give to their life.
Because I enjoy chilling out with people.
Because of the authenticity of it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I tend to like grotesque, sad, realist and cryptic movies (but I also love comedies, feel-good or horror ones!). I do not watch tv-series (except a very few).
I guess my forever-favourite movie is GUMMO, by Harmony Korine. Other recent ones that come to mind are Melancholia, Mommy, Mother, Antichrist. Also Twin Peaks and Lynch’s cinematic atmosphere in general.
But I don't really watch lots of movies anymore.

I used to read a lot of fiction (latest favourite: Wind-up Bird Chronicles by Murakami) but nowadays I mostly read non-fiction about self-development, spiritual growth, copywriting and other fields I’m interested in.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A very nice thing has been bike-touring for several months across England, Ireland and France, sleeping in the woods and bathing in the wild, feeling nature all around me all the time, while working as a volunteer at farms along the way.
Or looking down at the ocean from the majestic Dún Aonghasa cliff at Inishmore.
Also, discovering the unfathomable beauty of the Faroe Islands and making friends along the way.
Or exploring the very raw human reality of the towns, cities and villages of Calabria, and especially Aspromonte.

Teach, Learn, Share

Would be lovely to chill and chat over a drink (also of water) with some nice music in the background.

I can share photography tips,
teach some bits of Italian cooking (pizza, focaccia, pasta sauces, risotto, lasagna, tiramisù…),
help you practice Italian/English conversational skills and give tips and advice.

I'm a London expert so I can help you organise your next trip or even accompany you on a bespoke tour if we're in town at the same time.

I generally think that every experience and connection takes us forward on the path towards being a better human, so just sharing time is great 🌝

Oh, I would really love learning to cook traditional (vegetarian) meals from your country!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Conversation. Speculations on the nature of reality, beauty and ugliness, poetry, art. Photographic, culinary and linguistic tips and skills. Company. Cleaning and tidying up of course! I especially love to do the washing up 😏. I always clean after myself and I will keep the space you offer me spotless.
