About Me

Hey hey, so some of my family calls me Zel, you guys can go for it too. My entire family is from Puerto Rico, I was born and raised in Florida. I've lived in FL my entire life. If there's anything I'm certain about is that I want to travel, and not just 2 weeks out of a year. I want to live in different places and experience different spaces, and I want it to be my lifestyle for some time.

I have traveled to many states in the U.S. as well as many islands in the Caribbean including Puerto Rico, and passed through Tennessee and Missouri during a mini road trip to Kansas City. I plan on expanding my adventures in the months following, among other paths.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because I would like greater opportunity to venture and experience other places, as well as myself, while also meeting new and beautiful people.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love a variety of music, but I especially love jazz, neo-soul, new age, alternative and reggae. Definitely 90's hip hop and rnb. I also love Maroon 5. I read many of Danielle Steel's and James Patterson's books growing up, but also many, many others by different authors. Huge Harry Potter fan. One of my favorite books would be "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls (which was finally made into a movie in 2017!!). My favorite movies are all the Planet of the Apes, Avatar, Queen, Tracks, Into the Wild and so many others not coming to mind right now. I really appreciate movies based on real life, especially those that tell people's stories.

I'm also a huge video game fan, and have played pretty much everything across PS2 and PS3 and some of PS4 except sports and car games (with the exception of Burnout, which the purpose of the game is to crash the car). My favorite video games are the Uncharted series, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, all of GTA, Red Dead Redemption, and BioShock 3 and Infinite. I am going to be beside myself once virtual reality is really developed.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I participated in a beautiful indigenous ritual of the Lakota tribe that they call "Inipi," where we sit in an enclosed, sacred sweat lodge and endure incredible, accumulating heat from fired stones that are brought in one by one in batches of seven per round. Chanting, drumming and breathing is how the heat is dealt with. After the fourth round, the ceremony is complete and participants exit with impurities left behind. The Lakota people believe the Inipi represents the universe. It is by far the most intense and difficult experience I've had in my life, and something I completely underestimated.
