About Me
Hi, I'm Glen.
Nice to hopefully meet you soon!
My Life in short until now:
I was born in France, where my French father still lives and moved to Germany with my German mother when I was eight years old and lived there since.
In Germany I went to a European school and got my French and German degree, worked afterwards as a personal assistant for disabled persons in Heidelberg in my social service and went afterwards to northern Germany to study Art Therapy and Art Pedagogic in a small town near Bremen.
Near Bremen I lived in a big house in the little town, where I lived and studied. We were 13 people living in the house most of the time and there were regularly couchsurfers coming by, which we hosted together, though only two or three of us were the official hosts. It was nice to get to know new people and since many of them wanted to study at our university some of them later became roommates, when they started studying there. During my studies I worked in a museum and a prison for a while as an intern.
After my studies I moved to Bremen to get started in my professional life in the social field.
I than first worked in a school with mentally disabled adolescents for two years and afterwards for a very short term with refugees as a social worker. The work with the mentally disabled youngsters was sometimes really challenging, but if you work with mentally disabled people, you can always count on behavior that is out of the ordinary and a kind of honesty that might shock you. :)
If you for instance show up for work, looking like hell, for whatever reason, they might just tell you directly to your face, that you look like shit, smile at you and embrace you. :D
They might also scream at you for several hours for no reason, that you might not be able to explain or influence, which is taking its tow after a few weeks. o.O
Thankfully I always had the luck to be in great teams and that we helped each other and kept each others backs. Its of a big importance in a challenging job to me and I definitely miss working with them.
I also worked as a volunteer during that time for two or three different organizations to get more experience, as a social worker, social assistant and art teacher.
Things that make me very happy:
My most important passion would be writing, which I have done for more than half of my life starting with poetry in French, than poetry and short stories in German and later on I have started to work on children stories. The first children's-book is done in writing and will need illustrations in the future, when I can focus parts of my energy into it. I have also finished my first book with short stories and send it to different publishers, which might hopefully reply soon.
My second passion would be art and the creation of artwork, which equally fills me with joy as my writing, though it is sometimes very challenging, when my vision is in battle with my actual skills, which always need improvement. I've done a lot of things that are awesome in my eyes and if other people also like it, than I'm very happy. :)
My third passion would be cooking, which I love to do, not only because I enjoy eating, but also because I love to make something that is a daily necessity into a special event, thereby creating many moments of joy, that otherwise wouldn't be moments worth remembering and loving to that extend.
So that is a glimpse of me.
Un poco en Espanol:
Hola, me llamo Glen,
Muchas Gacias.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to live in Spain with my girlfriend who is half Spanish, but before I can start to begin my life here, I want to get to know the people who live in that beautiful country. I want to get to know the culture and the people and this is the reason, why I created this account.
Later on, when my life here is settled, I'd love to host people myself and to show them, what the country has to offer, but at this point I have to discover it myself, which I will do on a journey on the Camino de Santiago, to discover the country and people along the road.
I definitely need to improve my Spanish and hope that I find patient hosts, which would like to share their culture with me.

Music, Movies, and Books
I am very open to many things and like music in a very bright span. Here are some examples: Queen, Vivaldi, Metallica, Die Antwoord, Daft Punk, Trentemoller, Regina Spector, The XX, The streets, Sytem of a Down, Camille, and many others.
It mostly depends on what I feel like at the moment.
Movies I love are often romantic once. I have my soft side including films like: Her, Stranger than fiction, Les Miserables, Odd Thomas, Only lovers left alive, . . .
But I also love more intellectually challenging movies like: Oldboy, The holy mountain, The Fountain, Stay, movies from Jim Jarmush, the straight story, . . .
And Movies which somehow defy any classification, like: Genius Party (and beyond), Mind Game, Ten Items or less, . . .
As well as comedies: I love Will Ferrell
And action and Fantasy.
I also very much like series, like: How I met your mother, The Wire, Firefly, Buffy, American Dad, Futurama, Rick and Morty, Naruto, Green Wing, The office, The league of Gentlemen, Sherlock, Luther, Band of brothers, . . .
As to books I love: the Hobbit, the Harry Potter series, the little Prince, His dark materials, books from Haruki Murakami, from Goethe, Candide, an many I have read, but unfortunately forgotten the name.
I am also found of comics and illustrated novels like Preacher, Deadpool, Calvin and hobbes (I love them), cyanide and happyness, . . .
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've lived my life until now in such a way, that the child that I once was would be proud and happy to know what I have become. (not proud of everything I've done because I was very young and stupid at times, but proud of who I have become with time and looking forward to what will happen in the future.) :D
He wouldn't believe many of the things that I've been able to experience and would love to hear me read, or tell him some of the stories I brought into the world.
(May sound strange to some, but that is the most amazing in my eyes) :)
Teach, Learn, Share
Stories, poetry, cooking, drawing, painting, laughter and maybe deep philosophical conversations are all things I'm very in for.
Going out and partying might not be the primary thing for me to do, very much depending on the music, people or occasion. I'm rather a calm guy, which in no way means that I am boring.
I just choose more wisely now, when I decide to go crazy, and when I do, there are always funny stories to look back with a smile on my face. :)
