About Me

I'm a public school teacher (History) of 25 years. In the evening, I make music with friends, play/perform in restaurants, or art/performance spaces. I make music to bring people together. I read non-fiction to learn about the world. Harari's "Sapiens" and Snyder's "On Tyranny" are some favorites. I bicycle to explore. I look forward to couch surf (!), meet people, and learn of their lives and cultures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing so that I can make plans spontaneously and not break the bank. As a public school teacher, I need to save on the costs of hotels, which are cold, and AirBNB, which is hit or miss. I'm hopeful that Couchsurfing can offer the opportunity to learn about the people I come to meet--travel at its best.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I'm a sponge. I gravitate towards music I can play on my guitar--been playing for thirty years. I can "sit-in" and play with people easily and can make people around me sound good. That being said: I love blues. Been listening to The Black Keys, Muddy Waters and Johnny Winter, I also love Chris Cornell, amazing vocalist. As long as there's space between notes, I'm in.

Books: I gravitate to non-fiction. Other reads: "Fantasy Land," "You Are Not a Gadget," "Don't Trust Your Gut." I subscribe to The Atlantic, NY Times, Foreign Policy and The New Yorker.

Favorite Movie: Sound of Music and Star Wars. Loved Avatar, Jaws, The Matrix, and Terminator. Also, The Hangover. Something About Mary.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bike across the USA three times. Did a TEDx talk on the educational power of mistakes/failure and trying again in a supportive community.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love history. Happy to talk about it. I'm not an ideologue. I got questions, not answers. I like conversation not monologue.

I can teach guitar.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to clean dishes. My pleasure. Afterwards, we can write a song about it.

Countries I’ve Visited
