About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make a network of good solid friends across Europe and further afield, get new persepectives, to learn and teach.

ABOUT ME

I'm a peaceful, intelligent, friendly person who can get on with most people. I'm a bit of a free-thinker and like to experience things which are novel to me.

PHILOSOPHY

This is a work in progress. I suppose non-attachment, intersubjectivity, stoicism and the idea of the non-existent self are the main influences on my thinking. This makes me sound like a doom-spouting nutjob, in fact I feel I am attaining happiness by ignoring it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None yet, but everyone has been very friendly and impressive so far.

Interests

I read a lot of psychology and philosophy, I'm training to be a psychotherapist so these are especially useful. I'm interested in art, history, politics, geography and the stories that weave these things together. I love nature and the outdoors.

Music, Movies, and Books

Crumbs, lots, I'm bound to miss lots of important ones here but lets start with films:
Volver, Nausicca Valley of the Wind, Apocolypse Now, Little Otik, Zazie Dans Le Metro, A Town Called Panic, Cries and Whispers, Ran, El Topo, Planet of the Apes, Distant Voices - Still Lives, The Cave of Forgotten Dreams Aguirre Wrath of God and many other Herzog films, Breathless.

Music:
top acts are The Smiths, Cocteau Twins, Black Sabbath, Elvis Costello, Kate Bush, Abbey Lincoln etc
It will have to be genres because this could take all night...
Jazz, folk music from the UK and other parts of the world (not really into Mumford and Sons and Fleet Foxes style of thing,) pre-1996 pop music (ask me about this,) many kinds of metal, jungle, reggae, soul and some funk, 90s indie-shoegazer stuff, some techno, conscious hip hop, noise, electronica.

Books:
Wuthering Heights, Homage to Catalonia, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Brave New World, Siddartha, The Third Policeman, Ghost Stories of an Antiquary, One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I take great pleasure in nature so seeing Lake Varnen in summer time in Varmland, Sweden, was an absolute delight. I could pretend that mankind had never existed, not that I'm a misanthropist you understand ;-).
The second was witnessing and playing drums at a pagan festival at a sacred site in the West of England on the summer solstice. Owing to our moon's orbit, it was closer to Earth than it had been for 7 years, it was full, people with animal masks wheeled and danced around to our music, fires were burning, a curious feeling came over us all.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am slowly getting fluent in existential philosophy, I am also a psychologist. I've lectured on Buddhism and have taught meditation classes. Owing to all this I can't really offer answers to much but perhaps I can offer you new questions.
