Overview
About Me
I grew up in Northern Colorado, and got my bachelor's of science in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado in 2006. One of my last semesters in university was spent on a study abroad program called "Semester at Sea," and during this semester, I traveled around the globe, visiting ten different countries, all while earning credit towards graduation. Semester at Sea definitely helped to shape my worldview and introduced me to the idea of long-term travel.
After I graduated, I went to work as a civil engineer for a small firm in Denver, Colorado, but quickly realized that working as an engineer and sitting behind a desk for forty hours a week wasn't what I wanted my life to be. So, while drunk at a friend's Christmas party in 2007, I ordered a non-refundable, one-way ticket to New Zealand, and subsequently moved there in 2008. I worked as a ski lift operator at a resort outside Queenstown, and traveled the country for seven months.
Not yet ready to return to the US, I moved to Australia, where I worked odd jobs and lived in a van. I spent a year and a half in Australia, and when my visa expired, I still wasn't ready to return home. I made my way to South Korea, where I taught English for a year, and saved money to do some traveling in Central and Southeast Asia. I spent 4 months in Nepal, then made my way through Thailand and Cambodia en route to Vietnam, where I again worked as an English teacher.
After a summer home in 2012, I returned to the South Korean island of Jeju, where I spent the next two and a half years teaching English to elementary and middle school students. The money I saved while there enabled me to come back home to Colorado via China, Mongolia, Kenya, and Tanzania.
I am now living in northern Colorado and trying to make it as a professional photographer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As a professional photographer, I have periods of intense travel. For instance, I am going to be working at shows for 11 of 12 weekends all across the country in April, May, and June of 2016. I have couchsurfed before and met some wonderful, interesting people, and hope that I will be able to do the same during my travels across the country.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I saw a tiger in the jungle in Nepal from something like twenty feet away, while with a single, tiny guide armed with a bamboo pole, and on foot. It was scary.
