Overview
About Me
I have raised my three children, had my career and have been enjoying being a pretty full-time Grandmother since I retired. The rest of the time I keep up my flower and vegetable garden, sew and do other needlework, read, call my legislators, and walk in the woods whenever I can. I enjoy cooking and eating new things and listening to music, especially with family and friends. Sometimes I leave my grandson, garden and pets behind for a little while so I can go explore a new part of the world.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It is fun to see new places when I travel, but hotels are expensive for my retirement budget and too isolating. I want to meet people in the places I visit.
I have enjoyed meeting some couchsurfers staying with my daughter, and she has encouraged me to give it a try. I have had the pleasure of hosting an exchange student and found the experience very rewarding. I'd love to hear your story!

Music, Movies, and Books
New music, old music, classical, singer-songwriter, world music, jug band, rock and roll: I love music, especially live.
Spirited Away, The Fall, Pirates of Penzance, Amadeus, City Lights, Arsenic and Old Lace.
Freddy's Book by John Gardner, Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes by Daniel Everett, Ordinary Wolves by Seth Kantner, In Search of Ancient Oregon by Ellen Morris Bishop, Little, Big by John Crowley, The Swerve: How the World Became Modern by Stephen Greenblatt, anything by Terry Pratchett or Jane Austen
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The thing of which I am most proud would have to be my three creative, hard-working, interesting, fun, adult children, but they have put a lot of effort into becoming who they are and I don't deserve all that much credit!
I have had a life full of varied experiences: hitchhiked all over the United States, season tickets at the opera. One experience that stands out might be the evening spent watching little blue penguins emerge from the southern ocean to feed their hungry chicks and then walking up the boardwalk from the beach under the most incredible starry sky, seeing the Magellanic Cloud for the first time. Or maybe it is standing on a hill in February, 1979, watching the shadow of the moon rush over the wheatfields and in that moment internalizing the speed at which the world is spinning all the time.
Teach, Learn, Share
I've lived in this area since 1970, and in this house since 1992, so I know this corner of Oregon pretty well, love it, and enjoy sharing it with people.
I like to cook for people or cook with people, so come hang out in my kitchen!
Relax in the shade of my arbor, surrounded by my riot of flowers, or get out and explore.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am a quiet and tidy guest.
I would be happy to share some of my skills, be it sewing/mending, gardening or grandmothering.
