About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am perplexed by the wonder that is European culture and history! Seeking friends in the UK, France, Switzerland, and Northern Italy.

ABOUT ME

If my friends were to describe me, I think the first thing that would come to their mouths would be enthusiastic. I am awe-stricken by the world - curious, energetic, and just plain full of excitement! My friends never cease to be amazed by the ideas I conjure up in my head, inspired by new things I learn in my studies, or through experience, cultural exchange, or just based on my own sense of intuition. My friends sometimes accuse me of being too optimistic - I try to find the best in situations and just go with the flow! I'm always making people laugh, I can be really silly sometimes.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm on the pursuit of happiness. It is my goal to bring fulfilment to my life by keeping an open mind and an open heart. I feel that I believe most strongly in compassion and empathy - through those two virtues we could transform the world into a place of coexistence and deeper meaning. I want to stray from the evil that is the capitalist system and find an alternative to this consumer-based, empty society we have created.

Interests

As a first year university student, the most interesting part of my life right now is the pursuit of knowledge. I love the international realm - thinking beyond borders. I am doing a double major in Ethics, Society & Law and Cultural Anthropology with a minor in Political Science. I am fascinated by culture, history, philosophy, international law, art, music, food, books, world issues and photography! There is nothing like taking a dip in any body of water - I loved the mediterranean last year when I spent the summer in Sicily. I play basketball, I'm a lifeguard, I love to sing, and also act! I starred in multiple productions in High School - one example being the Shakespearean Masquerade we had at our school. As an ethicist, I am incredibly passionate about social justice issues - I have a vision for a better and brighter future. The environment is very important to me, so I love Fair Trade stores like Ten Thousand Villages as well as purchasing organic products (and supporting local producers!). One day, I hope to do research. This summer I would love to start a blog that integrates my cultural experiences, personal thoughts, and photo journalism!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love: Skins, Game of Thrones, Glee, Indie, Dubstep, Alternative Rock - any kind of music! Brave New World, Harry Potter, Water for Elephants, anything Noam Chomsky, Vandana Shiva, The Leopard..

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my favourite life moments was when my host family in Sicily brought me to an island called Pantelleria and we went snorkelling in this amazing coral reef. I have never experienced such exquisite beauty - the colours, the fish, the water. It was like entering a new world - an entirely new dimension. Another was when I joined a pub crawl in Rome. It was my second last night in Europe before heading back to Canada, and I was feeling really emotional. I met people from all over the world, discussing different components of our lives and exchanging cultural information was truly magnificent! It is so interesting how our value systems as human beings are shaped so largely by our cultural affiliations. These are the moments I live for - travelling, taking the road untravelled, discussing matters of being and existing. Overall, these are the kind of life changing experiences that bring me the fulfillment I seek as a person!
