About Me

When the campfire flames lick the air my friends and I sing (poorly) along with my guitar. We laugh at the conversations that are too private for in the city but the coziness of camping brings on.

As the crimson embers glow I lean back to let my eyes adjust. The stars in the milky way get brighter and I let my mind wander about deeper roots from the past.

Life is too short for polite conversation. Let's get into the grit of life and talk about those things that we want to write home about.

I grew up in Colorado (Boulder, Longmont, Fort Collins, Denver) and am bonded to that sense of adventure that seems to be lost in the modern world of men. Felling a tree, clearing a gun, navigating the rough trail, reading actual books. I enjoy the excuse to share stories, virtual travel through the eyes of another, and discover even more in this great state.

What cracks you up, makes your knees weak, or scares you? Let's do those things!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling is a way of becoming worldly. When I can't be the one abroad then the next best thing is to talk to others from the places that I'd like to experience.

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently I'm reading "Let My People Surf". by Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia.

I'm a big fan of CPR, Wait Wait, Radio Lab, Make Me Smart, The Daily 202, Fresh Air.

I'm into music artists such as Nightmares on Wax, Ella Fitzgerald, Anuhea, Goldfrapp, Chris Stapleton, Josh Wawa White, Rhye, Emilie-Claire Barlow, Thievery Corporation, Angie Stone, Sam Cooke, Bebel Gilberto, Jackie Wilson, Nightmares on Wax, The Crystal Method, Benny Goodman... I have an affinity of things old and with character, the 1950's are one of my favorite vintage eras.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Explored to the edge of the Utah desert. The canyon's wall, so constrained by the sheer faces, squeezed the breeze fast enough to float tiny rocks upward! The slot canyons, bare red sandstone, sheer drop cliffs, hourglass soft sand between my toes, and the cool water of the mighty Colorado river. Amazing!

With both hands I scooped up wet beach sand and started counting the grains... "There are more stars than there are grains of sand on all the beaches in the entire world" - Neil Degrasse Tyson - That blows my mind.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a teacher at heart. I love sharing those gems that can only be learned through long living. I seek those that know more than me. Every once in awhile I'll run across someone that is happy from within their very core. It shows. I like to find out what things they have to pass along to the world. Not long ago I met a guy that must have been in his 60s, married for decades, and still built like Hercules. His advice was to “Give 'em the benefit of the doubt.” He went on to tell a story of his wife's temporary personality change during her stroke and how that bit of wisdom not only saved their marriage it made it stronger and saved her life. I love the gleam that comes from learning extraordinary things from people that I run into.

There are gobs of old mining trails, ghost towns, and campsites to relax in. I normally have gear enough for two. If you are from a country that doesn't allow it's citizens to have guns, and we have a good foundation, maybe we can go (safely) shooting? Maybe we can work with our hands and make something in my shop?Maybe even weld up an indestructible coffee cup that can travel the world with you?

What I Can Share with Hosts

If I get the privilege of surfing your couch I'll do my best to be the good guest that you hope everyone to be. For me that means leaving things cleaner than when I got there, helping out with things like dishes, cooking, and will be mindful of your time whether that means being social or making sure you have the space to recharge your introvert batteries. I'm very, very clean.
