Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Have hosted many folks from all over the globe when I lived in Seattle, and even a few when I lived (for 2 years) in Vietnam. But alas, now that I'm settled in Cuenca, Ecuador my digs in El Centro are too small for guests.

Nonetheless, happy to meet-up if you ever land in Cuenca - unless I happen to be off to explore some new foreign land myself (what can I say? I am nothing, if not a terminal wanderlust).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Delighted to be a member of this merry band of gypsies - have hosted quite a number of fine CSers and loaded up on couchsurfs myself in Australia and Singapore (indeed, the CS folks I met were among the HIGHLIGHTS of my near month visit to Singapore and Oz.)

Off-the-beaten path travel is my passion. When I'm not airborne to some new exotic land, I content myself with geocaching (a World-wide game of hide 'n seek), reading (non-fiction), food photography, and/or whatever the next thing might be that catches my fancy...

The Girl in the Picture", The remarkable story of Vietnam's most famous casualty by Denise Chong - not your usual "Nam" story. A most fascinating and thoughtful story - one that made me FINALLY understand the "American War".

The China Price: The True Cost of Chinese Competitive Advantage, by Alexandra Harney. Well documented and most comprehensive - likely the opposite conclusions you might expect.

blink: The power of Thinking Without Thinking, by Malcolm Gladwell - EXcellent!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Among many, one of the most extraordinary experiences I've had was witnessing "La Dia de Dos Noches" in Costa Rica - a 7 minute-long total solar eclipse (think: brilliant tropical sunshine at noon, fading to the dark of night resplendent with stars - all in a matter of 7 minutes!)

Running an int'l adventure travel company, tinkering with websites; teaching EFL; inspiring other lasses "of a certain age" (or whatever age/circumstance) to slap on a backpack and wander this wondrous GLOBE!
