After traveling through over 60 countries I've learned that it's not about the sights you see but the people you meet.

Washington is full of hidden treasures and amazing people from all over the world and that's why I love to call it home. My neighborhood boasts one of the most diverse regions of the country with dozens of nationalities all living within a few blocks.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In 2009, I escaped the daily grind in Washington to backpack around the world for seven months. I traveled through South Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal, India, Turkey, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Tanzania, South Africa, Lesotho, and Brazil. I couch surfed with dozens of folks in Israel, South Africa and Brazil and it was the highlight of my trip.

I crashed a Muslim wedding in Malaysia. I was flagged down in the street by the father of the bride to join the festivities in his front yard. One tent for the boys, one tent for the girls. The food was great, being forced to sit on the marriage bed for pictures...not so great.
