Overview
About Me
I am just another Australian/confused soul/recent biochemistry graduand. I am very uncertain about a lot of things but one thing I do know for certain is that I love my dog Frankie.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on Couchsurfing because it seems like a wonderful and supportive community. Having done it informally before through friends of friends of friends means that this seems like a nice next step to make friends from all over the world!
Interests
I am a nerd who loves learning, be it through books, people or experiences. I also love working with my hands, and I hope to be able to do more sewing and crafting in the future - in the meantime, it is such a pleasure to walk through markets and see how other creative and talented other people are. Being an Australian and growing up with kangaroos literally 15 minutes from my house means that I have always been surrounded by beautiful nature around me. Andddd lastly I love a good beer and a boogie!

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: changes all the time, but currently am listening to Devendra Banhart, Michael Kiwanuka, Whitest Boy Alive, Solange, Sufjan Stevens, Phoenix, Nujabes, Eddie Vedder, D'Angelo, Thundercat, Esperanza Spalding, Common (and other Soulquarians especially the goddess that is Erykah Badu), The Beach Boys, El Caribefunk (highly recommend for dancing to anywhere, anytime, they are so much fun!)
Books: Recently I have been reading more Haruki Murakami, Lanark: A life in four books, Utopia for Realists, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Growth of the Soil, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Alias Grace. Have mostly fell out of the nerdier stuff, but A Song of Ice and Fire (like everyone else, am a bit sick of waiting so just want to know the ending and will find out through the TV series), and a little bit of Brandon Sanderson. There are a lot more books on my to read list, including Simon Singh's work, and more stuff on behavioural economics (of which I know nothing about but sounds really interesting!)
Movies: Some of the recent movies I can remember that had an effect on me are the Ghibli films, Her, Whiplash, Call Me By Your Name, A Clockwork Orange. Am a sucker for some brands of trashier movies such as 10 Things I Hate About You which has a lot of sentimental value, Shrek (up to number 3, it just went too far downhill from there)...once again a bit of a mix. Will cautiously say I like Star Wars, but am by no means a super fan.
But the most surefire and easiest way we can connect is over Flight of the Conchords and 30 Rock (not movies but two of the most legendary TV shows that I love to bits!)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I love seeing animals in the wild - nothing beats a bunch of penguins making their descent into the water!
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: I used to be obsessed with making this origami box, to the point where I could make it out of a 1cm x 1cm square (since then I made some friends and got a life)...It looks like this: https://www.giladorigami.com/origami-database/Christiane%20Bettens%20%28Melisande%29. Otherwise I love biochemistry and want everyone to love it too!
Learn: I don't think I know a lot (I was too busy making origami boxes) but I am very interested in everything! I'm one of those people that can waste a lot of time on Wikipedia and following the links through each article.
Share: Growing up in a Chinese family means we show our love by sharing our food :)
